Situated in the very center of Poland, the £ód¼ Province boasts a long tradition of producing clothing and textiles. Currently, next to these two pillars, the most important industries in the region are: the energy industry, production of household appliances, pharmaceuticals, agri-food processing, production of medical equipment, packaging and construction ceramics. Almost 70 percent of the domestic production of ceramic tiles and terracotta is to be found in the province. £ód¼ Province. The region is also developing in other areas, such as finance, billing and research services (BPO / SSC business process outsourcing, shared service centers) and biotechnology. It is worth adding that the largest household appliances industrial cluster in Europe was created in the £ód¼ Province. It is created, among others, by such manufacturers as B/S/H/, Whirpool, Indesit and Miele.

Advantages of the voivodeship

  • Central location in Poland, at the intersection of the European North-South and East-West transport corridors (A1 and A2), facilitating access both to the markets of neighbouring EU countries and to the markets of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and China (e.g. thanks to £ód¼ - Chengdu cargo rail connection in China, in the province of Sichuan).
  • Highly qualified and committed employees. Numerous universities and vocational schools which prepare employees to the highest professional standards. Over 58% of the total population are people of working age.
  • The country's major scientific and research potential of 21 universities in £ód¼, and also research centers. More than 14,600 students study technical faculties at the £ódz University of Technology and the University of £ódz has about 3,350 graduates ever year.
  • A large number of companies with foreign capital (compared to other voivodships).
  • Lignite resources, thanks to which the voivodship is the second largest energy producer in the country (after Silesia) and has a surplus of cheap electricity.
  • Sources of thermal waters that can be the basis for the development of renewable energy and the development of the region's spa functions (example of the only thermal spa in Poland in Uniejów and the Thermal Water Pump Room in Poddźbice).
  • Active economic policy of the voivodeship’s authorities aimed at the development of a friendly administration for medium and small enterprises and the creation of favourable employment conditions.
  • Attractive investment offers for investors in 45 subzones of the £ód¼ Special Economic Zone, in which approx. 350 companies operate.
  • A large number of companies from the SME sector that can be treated as potential sub-suppliers of parts and components for foreign manufacturers. In 2020, in the province in £ód¼ there were about 265 thousand registered business entities; the vast majority are companies from the SME sector.

The employment structure in the voivodship is characterized by a dominant share of the service sector (56%), while the agricultural and industrial sectors account for 12% and 32% of the those in employment.

Most of the companies in £ódz operate in the service industry, mainly in such sectors as: trade, repair of motor vehicles, transport (mainly road), warehouse management, accommodation and catering; information and communication, financial and insurance activities, and real estate services.

A significant share in the total number of entities are from the construction sector, the industrial processing sector and from the field of scientific and technical activities (approximately 32%).

The companies and production plants are mainly involved in the production of clothing, fabrics, foodstuffs, beverages, furniture and finished metal products, as well as dressing and dyeing leather. The region is a leading producer of clothing (almost a quarter of the domestic production sold in 2020), textiles (almost 26%), tobacco products (over 17%), and beverages and food products (9%). The £ódz Voivodship also has an almost 10% share in the production for the domestic market of electrical devices (mainly household appliances).

The field that is developing dynamically in the £ód¼ region is the pharmaceutical industry and wholesale trade in pharmaceutical product.
