NEWS From the editor: Constantly good economic news. Indonesia has chosen Poland to be the place of its European promotion action. As a result of the Indonesian government’s decision Warsaw will host over 1000 of exhibitors from Asia in May.
The specialists see possibilities of an upgrade of Poland’s rating and the investors open subsequent plants. The special economic zones enjoy such a big popularity that the government starts to plan its enlargements. Everything looks good and it is going to be even better. We invite you to read the text. The Indonesian Fair in Warsaw A press conference dedicated to the promotion plans of Indonesia in Europe and the first Indonesian Expo in Central and East Europe (IECEE) took place on Tuesday the 12th of February at the PAIiIZ Press Center in Warsaw.
Mr Hazairin Pohan, the Indonesian Ambassador to Poland, as well as Mr Henry Kaitjily, the Deputy Director of IECEE took part in the conference. Paweł Wojciechowski, the PAIiIZ president, was the host of the meeting.
The panelists spoke about the upcoming fairs that will take place between the 7-10 of May 2008 in Warsaw. Over one thousand of Indonesian companies will present in May its products and services, as well as offers from the investment and tourism sector. The 1st IE-CEE is an excellent opportunity for businessmen from Europe to come to Warsaw and meet their Indonesian counterparts in one-on-one meetings, investment seminars, as well as tourism promotions. There will be cultural performances of folk music, dances, as well as exotic Indonesian cuisine. More information at: www.indonesiaexpo-cee.com Moody’s: Poland experiences a period of a strong economic growth Upgrade of Poland’s rating is possible – assessed the rating agency Moody’s. It depends however on fiscal reforms.
The actual rating (A2) responds to the economic and fiscal situation of Poland after its accession to the EU, the advanced economic and financial integration of Poland with EU, as well as the dynamic economic development and proactive public debt management. As the authors wrote in the report - Poland experiences a period of a strong economic growth, low inflation and intense inflow of FDI. - There are some obvious areas which need structural reforms such as the rural sector pensions, system of health protection, education, as well as social transfers - said Mr Jonathan Schiffer, Moody’s vice president. Shiffer expects the government to focus on the reforms regarding the expenses of the budget. Moody’s counts also on the lowering of the PIT and CIT taxes. According to the prognosis of the agency, the GDP growth in 2008 will amount to 5,6% and the inflation rate 2,7%. (PAP, ISB) NBP - the FDI amounted in December to 970 mln EUR In December the balance of the foreign direct investment in Poland was positive and amounted to EUR 970 million - the National Bank of Poland stated in February 2008.
The balance comprised: net value of reinvested profits (EUR 427 million), net inflow of funds against loans received from direct investors (EUR 282 million) and net inflow of funds against equity capital of Polish direct investment enterprises (EUR 261 million). INVESTMENTS IN POLAND The company Elettric 80 opened an R&D center in Kraków
The Italian company Elletric 80, from the industrial automatic sector, opened a Research & Development Center in the Kraków Special Economic Zone (KSEZ). 20 specialist have already found job there.
The research institute, located in Czyżyny, will work on automatics solutions and computer software systems for logistics. It will also support technically the entrepreneurs using the company’s product. The Kraków Zone has tripled its area to the amount of nearly 300 ha. It consists of nine sub zones in the Małopolskie and Podkarpackie voivodship. The Katowice Special Economic Zone will be enlarged by 135 ha The Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) is to be soon enlarged by nearly 135 ha in several cities of Silesia. This region is especially interesting for the companies cooperating with automotive firms investing in the CEE region - KIA and Hyundai.
- The planned KSEZ enlargement for sure won’t be the last one. There is a huge interest from the investors from the i.e. automotive sector and the amount of the grounds is limited. Some new communes have come to us with the idea of joining the Zone - said Igor Jelonek from KSEZ. He added, that a Korean investor from the automotive sector is expected to invest in the Zone. Other companies are also planning to invest here. The decision will be taken by the government. On Tuesday the voivodship office announced that the voivodship governor has estimated positively the proposal of the KZES board. The Zone will be enlarged by the plots in Katowice, Tarnowskie Góry, Chorzów, Zawiercie, Zabrze, Lubliniec and Tychy. The KSEZ area amounts today to 1,3 thousand ha. - The place and technical parameters of the grounds that will be added to the Zone, meet the requirements of potential investors and the expectations of the local government, which automatically see the possibility of new jobs creation - said Marta Mail, the spokeswoman of the governor. The commune grounds, which will be included to the KZES in Katowice, Zawiercie, Lubliniec, Chorzów, are planned to be a future location of service centers. The centers will offer employment mainly to the graduates of universities. Zabrzańskie Mechanical Works, from the Kopex Group, intend to invest in Zabrze in the production of new type of mining machines, mainly for export. A new investment project, a factory from the electronic and automatic sector, will be executed in the KSEZ area in Tychy. As Mr Piotr Wojaczek, the KSEZ president, forecasted before, the Zone expects in 2008 investments amounting to 1,5 billion PLN and creation of at least 2,5-3 thousand of work places. The first investor of 2008 is Inter Papier Polska. The company will invest ca 24 mln PLN in paper and cardboard production in Jastrzębie Zdrój. Last year the companies which decided to invest or develop their plants in the Zone, declared joint investments amounting to the value of 1,8 billion PLN. Thanks to the realization of 36 project started in 2007 nearly 3,5 thousand work places will be created. (PAP) Mielec attracts investors Nordisk Polska Sp. z o.o. is a subsequent company which starts an activity in the Special Economic Zone Euro-Park in Mielec. About 100 people will find employment here.
- The company offers telecommunication services - in the framework of one net it will be possible to make a connection with one or more users at the same time - said Wojciech Kamieniecki, the president of Nordisk Polska. The services will be used i.e. in business - especially in the transport, energetic, gas or construction companies. The civil services, such as fire brigade, emergency and police, will also have the possibility of using this type of communication. The company will offer its services on the area of the whole country. It needs 79 masts. The company’s headquarters are located in Warsaw and the operational head office in Mielec. According to Mr Kamieniecki, the company has chosen Mielec because of the Special Economic Zone. - Thanks to the Zone the investment costs will be much lower - he added. The company has won the tender for the communication frequency in May 2006. Nordisk will start to offer its services in the second half of 2009. - Mielec is the first city that will be able to use our services, both telephone and internet services - said Kamieniecki. The SEZ in Mielec has been runing since 1995. The Zone’s joint area amounts to 926 ha. In the years 2001 - 2007 the Zone has been enlarged by the subzones in Lublin, Rzeszów, Leżajsk, Sanok and Lubaczów. Until now there has been granted 129 permits to pursue a business activity. The joint value of expenditures of the investors amounts to 3 billion PLN, over 12 thousand people have found job there. There is more than 100 companies working in this SEZ. MACROECONOMIC POLAND
Source: www.nbp.pl ANALYSES AND REPORTS Enterprise Europe Network – New help for the entrepreneurs The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) is a new net of over 500 contact points supporting entrepreneurs. The companies from the SME sector from the EU and even from outside its territory may count on this form of help.
There is a principle of not relegating the matters to other institutions. With the new Enterprise Europe Network, the Commission is offering a ‘no wrong door’ solution, grouping all of the most important business services under a single roof, using the new technologies and engaging particular organizations within the framework of the new institution. - I want to encourage all the entrepreneurs from the EU and outside it to use the net in a way that best suits their needs - said Günter Verheugen, the Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Enterprise and Industry Enterprise Europe Network. The new European net joins the merits of the former networks - Euro Info Centre and Innovation Relay Centre. Among the EEN tasks there will be first of all - to facilitate business activity (both in trade and investments) over the national boarders and create technological partnerships among the companies. The EEN shall help the companies in searching for reliable partners, establishing contacts among the firms, supporting new ideas and exchange of innovative technologies. This should help the entrepreneurs entering the international market. The network will also deliver information about new legal norms coming into force, as well as about the EU funds and possibilities of using it especially in the area of research and development programmers. EEN will also have the role of intermediary in the communication between the EC and SME. The program is a part of an integrated EC policy for entrepreneurship support and the enterprise development in Europe.
