Conference: 10 edition of the survey on Employers’ Plans

The Randstad Research Institute in cooperation with TNS OBOP publishe its tenth edition of the survey “Employers' Plans”.

The survey shows that neither employment level nor salaries are expected to rise considerably. In fact, the group of employment pessimists anticipating a bleak condition of the upcoming six months has been growing.

From the left: Anna Polak-Kocińska - Deputy Director of the Economic Information Department at PAIiIZ, Agnieszka Bulik - Member of the Randstad Management Board and Sławomir Majman - President of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency

- Employers’ prognoses for the upcoming six months have not been very good. The prognoses are similar to the latest communiqués concerning situation in major sectors issued by the Central Statistical Office. However, our surveys show that in reality companies tend to enjoy a better condition than it is normally estimated in previous surveys and forecasts - comments Agnieszka Bulik, Member of the Randstad Management Board. - This means that at the moment employers may not feel the circumstances are favourable enough for them to be optimistic about the future. Agnieszka Bulik adds that - Despite the difficulties, companies sill tend to perform better than expected in the past.

The number of institutions which record economic growth has been on decline (24% in February 2011 vs. 37% in November 2010). There has been change in attitude among small companies. Now 27% of such companies expect recession ( while in November 2010 only 13%) and only 16% expect a positive economic outlook (in November 2010 29%). 29%).

“These sceptical views reflect the current economic situation. This attitude may partly be attributed to solvency difficulties which have been felt more and more sharply since the times of crisis. And new employees always generate considerable labour costs - explains Agnieszka Bulik.

Every 4th employer plans to rise salaries. The rises will not be substantial and should not exceed 5% of the salaries. There are no considerable changes in employment level - nearly 2 out of 3 employers do not plan to hire new people. Among the most popular employees there will be production and sales people. In every fifth of the surveyed companies there are plans to hire workers in production units (21%). In 20% of the companies which took part in the survey, owners plan to hire more salespersons. Agnieszka Bulik emphasises that - After winter layoffs, it is now mainly construction companies that plan to employ new people (48%). Salespersons will be sought mainly by big companies (35%). Such jobs will be most easily available in the central regions of Poland (32%). (Randstad)

Poznań - centre of modern and innovative business

On April 14th, 2011 Poznań invites everybody to discuss issue connected with innovations.

Poznań tops innovativeness rankings and is open for investments - a fact which has recently been confirmed by the PwC report. The city has a well-developed business environment and innovative business support institutions established by both the city and the private sector. Poznań is also a leading scientific and research centre and a large academic hub, which allows to expect that the local economy will be increasingly knowledge-based. One example of supporting local modern and innovative enterprises is the Poznań Technological and Industrial Park. The project is realised by the Wielkopolska Investment Support Centre, the Management Board of which has ambitious plans of creating a facility brimming with knowledge and entrepreneurship. How? Who will participate in the project? What state-of-the-art solutions and analyses have advisors and analysts prepared for innovators and budding companies? What is the financing offer for enterprises based on innovative ideas and science? Who benefits from innovation? How to maximise these benefits? These are just some of the topics which will be discussed during the “Inno-Poznań” seminar.

The seminar belongs to the “Prospects in Poland” meeting series promoting Polish cities and their investment potential. The aim of the half-day conference in Poznań is to, among others:

  • discuss the city’s policy regarding supporting innovative solutions, innovators and innovative companies,
  • present the activity of the Wielkopolska Investment Support Centre and tprojects run by the Poznań Technological and Industrial Park,
  • discuss interesting possibilities for innovative and ambitious business management,
  • present innovative project financing possibilities,
  • analyse human potential attractive for innovative employers,
  • discuss the current situation and future innovative activity potential in Poznań.

We have invited representatives of Poznań authorities and Poznań Technological and Industrial Park, who have the ambition of making the Park a place where innovative and modern ideas meet, to be our speakers. We also invited representatives of the scientific environment and big business. Experts from best advisory companies, representatives of financing and business institutions, not only from Poznań, will also participate in the seminar. The next “Prospects in Poland” meeting will take place on 19th May in Białystok. For more information please go to: www.prospectsinpoland.com or office@bluevine.pl (Bluvine Consulting)

Poland - a Power in nanotechnology

Latest discoveries of scientists from Warsaw may revolutionise the computer market

Graphene is an allotrope of carbon, whose structure is one-atom-thick planar sheets of carbon atoms that are densely packed in a honeycomb crystal lattice. The material is several hundred times more resistant than steel and may be bent. Graphene is also more effective when it comes to conducting electricity than copper and silicon which have been widely used in electronics. For their work on the material scientists Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov were awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics. Yet the pieces of material which they worked on was to little to find application in commercial solutions.

This barrier was overcome by Polish scientists from the Electronic Materials Technology Institute and the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw. The scientist found the way to transfer grapheme production from laboratories to factories - a thing which opens an ocean of possibilities. The Polish success has been presented in the prestigious “NanoLetters”. (Rzeczpospolita)
