Since over 40 years, Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements (PIAP) has been developing projects dedicated to robotization of industrial stations and lines, automation of assembly, transport systems in multi-station manufacturing plants, weighing and dosing systems, visual inspection systems and mobile robots.
At Hannover Messe 2019, PIAP is presenting a STIFF-FLOP gripper - a stiffness controllable, flexible and learnable manipulator for surgical operations.
The STIFF-FLOP is an innovative, "soft" robotic arm that is able to go through the standard port of minimally invasive surgery (about 12-20 mm in diameter). Due to a hydrostatic technology the device is able to change its configuration including the stiffness. This capability supports the process of correct surgical operation. It is useful especially in case of unexpected situations in the arm's environment.
The STIFF-FLOP project is a right solution for robotic laparoscopic surgery, when struggling with the problem of limited access through the Trocar. It is also helpful during surgical operations in the space filled with human organs.
The STIFF-FLOP device consists of:
At the moment, R&D process is being held to adapt of the STIFF-FLOP solution for industrial production.
Przemysłowy Instytut Automatyki i Pomiarów PIAP jest publiczną instytucją od czterdziestu lat opracowującą i wdrażającą systemy automatyki, urządzenia produkcyjne oraz specjalistyczną aparaturę kontrolno-pomiarową dla różnych gałęziach przemysłu.
Podczas Targów Hannover Messe 2019 PIAP zaprezentuje manipulator do operacji chirurgicznych o nazwie Chwytak STIFF-FLOP.
