How was the Park created?
On 26th July 2007, the city authorities of Piekary Śląskie and the governing bodies of the following companies: Orzeł Biały S.A., Zakład Gospodarki Komunalnej Sp. z o.o. [Municipal Services Company] and Górnośląska Agencja Przekształceń Przedsiębiorstw S.A. [Upper Silesian Enterprise Restructuring Agency] signed an agreement, following a notarial deed, establishing the limited liability company Park Przemysłowy w Piekarach Śląskich Sp. z o.o. [Piekary Śląskie Industrial Park].
On 31st July 2008, in relation to the expansion of the company’s business by adding activities resulting from the economic profile of the Park and connected with world-class standard waste management, the Shareholders’ Meeting adopted a resolution changing the company’s name to: Park Przemysłowo Technologiczny EkoPark w Piekarach Śląskich Sp. z o.o. [EkoPark Industrial and Technological Park In Piekary Śląskie Ltd]
The Park's profile
The new company focuses on activities involving environmental technologies related to waste segregation, recycling and processing.
The Park’s strategic goal is to create an attractive area that complies with international standards for business activities related to integrated waste management.
Large emphasis was put on the economic development of the region by ensuring favourable conditions for starting investments for interested business entities, as well as support in carrying out these investments.
Location
Piekary Śląskie is a city located in south-western Poland, in the Silesian Province, in the very centre of the Upper Silesian Industrial Area. The city’s strategic location makes it an attractive place for new investments. The areas covered by the EkoPark project (a total of 120 hectares) are located in Piekary Śląskie, near the neighbouring city of Bytom. It is a strategic place for the entire Silesian conurbation in terms of communication. Numerous national and provincial road interchanges are situated nearby. Harcerska Street, running along the southern border of the Park, is part of the E40 international motorway, as well as of national motorways No. 4 and 94. The A1 motorway is planned to pass only 3 kilometres from the Park: this is going to be a part of international route E75, starting in the north of Norway and passing through Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and Macedonia to Greece. In Poland, the A1 motorway is going to connect the Tri-City (Gdynia, Gdańsk, Sopot) sea ports to Upper Silesia, and this is going to be a further advantage for our investors. The Park’s area also have good access, by the local road network, to the existing A4 motorway, which passes only about 8 km from the Park, as well as to the International Airport in Pyrzowice (approx. 18 km). The local road infrastructure has been rebuilt at the initiative of the city authorities. It is also possible to extend the railway siding, representing an alternative to road transport.
