Singapore Business Federation in PAIiIZ
During the Poland-Singapore Business Forum, in the presence of prime minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and Poland's deputy prime minister Janusz Piechociński, representatives of companies from both countries discussed business cooperation. The event was organised by PAIiIZ and the Singapore Business Federation.

While opening the forum, PAIiIZ president Sławomir Majman emphasised the importance of Singapore as the world's most competitive economy. The event was attended by companies from the automotive, energy, construction, tourism, oil and gas, logistics, and health care sectors as well as representatives of Polish local authorities.

Before the forum, PAIiIZ president and representatives of the Agency’s Foreign Investment Department met the Singaporean delegation at the PAIiIZ Information Centre. Both sides talked about the investment attractiveness of Poland and its continued economic success achieved despite of the economic crisis. Guests were also shown the potential of strategic sectors such as renewable energy, automotive, ICT and R&D.

New partnership with Hubei
The Hubei-Poland Economy and Trade Cooperation Promotion Forum is a further step in strengthening business relations between Poland and China.

PAIiIZ president Sławomir Majman encouraged representatives of the Chinese province of Hubei to invest in Poland, especially in the electronics, renewable energy, IT and communication sectors.  - Poles are the Chinese of Europe; thanks to the energy of Polish entrepreneurs, the country coped with the economic crisis, he added.

After the official part of the ceremony, a cooperation agreement between PAIiIZ and Hubei provinces' Department of Commerce was signed. A Chinese company, Tri-Ring, signed a memorandum of understanding with two Polish companies - Fabryka Łożysk Tocznych in Kraśnik, which manufacturers ball-bearings, and Impexmetal, which operates in the non-ferrous metals sector.

Visiting Japan
PAIiIZ president Sławomir Majman signed cooperation agreement with Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) on 25 October.

Strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as meeting with the representatives of Lotte, NGK, Sumitomo Chemical - the largest Japanese investors in Poland - were the main highlights of the Polish deputy prime minister Janusz Piechociński and PAIiIZ president Sławomir Majman's official visit to Japan.

Mr Majman met with Hiromasa Yonekura, chairman of the Keidanren, the main Japanese business federation. PAIiIZ’s representatives visited Mizuho Bank. The two sides agreed to strengthen their efforts to encourage more Japanese investment in Poland.

Japan is the biggest Asian investor in Poland. Currently PAIiIZ is supporting nine Japanese inward investment projects with a total value of €63m. These have the potential to create at least 1,000 new jobs. (PAIiIZ)

Closer cooperation with Turkey
PAIiIZ continues to work towards closer cooperation with Turkey. On 25 October in Istanbul, during the CeBIT fair, the Agency organised a seminar about the opportunities of developing cooperation in ICT sector. The meeting was organised as part of the Promotion of Polish economy in Turkey programme.

The conference was arranged for Turkish entrepreneurs interested in the possibility of cooperating with Polish companies and to strengthen relations between the two countries.

During the CeBIT fair, at the Polish trade stand, companies form the Eastern Poland looked for new business partners and potential distributors. The stand was funded by the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme.

Slovak-Polish Economic Forum
Why does it pays to invest in Poland? The most important aspects of doing business, accounting and taxes, as well was providing support for innovation companies - these are among the issues discussed during the 12th Slovak-Polish Economy Forum.

ePAIiIZ deputy president Anna Polak-Kocińska familiarised the Forum's participants with details of the investment opportunities in Poland. She stressed the role of special economic zones and the importance of the government's decision to extend the SEZs operations until to 2026.

Ms Polak-Kocińska also reminded listeners that investors doing business in the Polish SEZs can benefit from government grants and CIT tax exemptions.

The forum was held on 24 October in Spišská Nová Ves, in Slovakia .

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

More than 15,000 new jobs thanks to PAIiIZ
By the end of October the Agency has completed 40 projects which can create 15,953 jobs. This is double the number of projects compared to the same period last year.

Currently, PAIiIZ supports 154 projects with a total value of over €4.5 billion. Thanks to the Agency's support, it is expected that at least 30,500 new jobs are likely to be created in the near future.

The majority of ongoing projects on the Agency´s list come from US (40 projects), Germany (17 projects) and China (13 projects). The Agency also supports nine projects each from UK and Japan.

Business services still predominate among all sectors ranked. These are: BPO (41 projects, €39.3m and 10,337 jobs), automotive (26 projects), R&D (13 projects) and food sector (10 projects). (PAIiiZ)

Takeda Pharma strengthens its position in Poland
Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda Pharma plans to increase its production in Poland by half, thanks to the development of a new factory.

Takeda's plant expansion will strengthen the company's position in Poland. It will help the firm maintain competitiveness in a rapidly changing healthcare market. With the expansion of factory, employment will be increased by almost a third.

The modern pharmaceutical plant in Łyszkowice is a showcase of Takeda in Poland. It produces medicines and food supplements for the Polish market and for export. Expansion of the plant will be completed in 2014. However, the already started production transfers will be completed in early 2015. (www.takeda.com)

Meet the Turkish prime minister at Poland-Turkey forum in Warsaw
PAIiIZ, the Ministry of Economy and the Polish Chamber of Commerce (KIG) invite you to the Poland-Turkey Business Forum. The meeting will be held on Friday 8 November at the Hyatt hotel.

The forum is being held on the occasion of the official visit of Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Poland. The event will be attended by Turkish entrepreneurs representing the construction,  energy, textile, logistics, food and jewellery sectors.

The conference will be in Polish, however simultaneous translation to Turkish will be provided.

New chances for cooperation in the Pacific region
Alliance Pacific - Opportunities for Development is the title of a conference on investment and business opportunities in the Pacific region. The organisers, the embassies of Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, invite you to take part in an event that will be held on Thursday 7 November in the PAIiIZ Information Centre.

China Yiwu International Manufacturing Equipment Expo
Supporting Polish-Chinese cooperation, PAIiIZ invites you to participate in a trade mission to ME EXPO (China Yiwu International Commodities Fair) The fair takes place between 19 - 22 November.

ME EXPO will be held at the International Manufacturing Equipment Centre in the city of Yiwu. Participation in the fair is an opportunity for Polish business interested in the Chinese market to establish contact with partners in the Far East.

E-commerce in China
How to translate a virtual market in to the real market? E-commerce in China is the topic of a seminar held on 18 November at 10.00 in PAIiIZ.

The conference is addressed to representatives of the Polish companies, special economic zones and the media. The event will be divided to three discussion panels entitled: How to take advantage of online sales in China?, How to develop a strategy for online sales in China? and How to develop a solid strategy for e-marketing in China. Participants of the seminar will discuss the methods and platforms for online sales and will consider the potential risks of e-commerce in China.

6th European Economic Forum - Łódzkie 2013. W centrum Polski, w centrum Europy (In the Heart of Poland, in the Heart of Europe)
On 13-14 November, Łódź will host the 6th European Economic Forum - Łódzkie 2013.

The event is being organised by the Marshal’s Office of the Łódzkie province under the patronage of PAIiIZ. Participants will talk about the modern BPO sector and its influence on the investment attractiveness of the Polish regions.

Doing Business in 2014
In this year's edition of the World Bank's Doing Business report, Poland was ranked in 45 position out of 189 countries surveyed. Moreover, the country was defined as the friendliest place for investors in CEE region. It's another year of Poland's improvement and the country's best result in the history of the ranking.

Comparing to the results published last year, Poland moved up 10 places (Poland was ranked 48th in the 2013 report, bearing in mind changes in the methodology) 

Poland's continued progress this year was made due to two major changes introduced last year - in terms of setting up a business and dealing with construction permits.

Poland was ranked 14th in the list of the fastest - improving countries since 2005, when the Doing Business surveys were established. The country is also highly rated in terms of ease of obtaining credit (third place).

The World Bank's Doing Business report ranks 189 global economies on the ease of operating a company. Countries are ranked on the basis of 10 factors defining the doing business index. (Doing Business 2014)

GDP grows
According to macroeconomic data report released by the Institute for Market Economics in Poland (IBnGR), in the third quarter of 2013, Poland's GDP grew by 1.8% compared to the same period last year. In fourth quarter, growth will accelerate to an annualised 2.1%.

This year - the Institute forecasts - will end with the economy having grown by 1.3% over 2012.  During next year, the economic environment in Poland will continue to improve. According to the Institute’s forecast, the GDP growth rate should reach 2.5%.

Domestic demand is considered to be the main driver of economic growth. The growth rate of domestic demand in Q3 is estimated at 1.4%. It was the first quarterly increase in domestic demand after five quarters of decline. (IBnGR)

Invest in Pomerania
Invest in Pomerania 2 - Promotion of Investment Attractiveness of Pomerania Region in Scandinavia and Germany.

TThe project was established to support to Pomeranian SMEs in their international activities, and to promote the region's investment attractiveness in Scandinavia and Germany. Four investment and trade missions to Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany will be organised between January 2014 and January 2015. The project will focus on the ICT, renewable energy and clean-tech sectors.

DID YOU KNOW...?

Technology Fast 50
27 companies from Poland were included in the 14th Deloitte Technology Fast 50 for the fastest growing companies in the CEE region. For the third year in a row, a Romanian company with Polish roots Vola.ro kept the leader position in the ranking.

Vola.ro is an online service selling airline tickets, founded by two Poles: Michał Wrodarczyk and Jarosław Adamski. In second place was Serbian company, Bitgear Wireless Design Services. The third place was won by Softhis from Krakow, a company that provides IT services and tools to support business processes.

Technology Fast 50 focuses on the fastest-growing innovation companies in the CEE region. The ranking is based on operating income growth rate. The contest consists of three categories: the main  "Technology Fast 50" and two subcategories, "Rising Stars " and "the Big Five". (Deloitte)
