ANALYSES AND REPORTS

Creative sector in EU
With revenues of €535.9bn, the creative and cultural industries (CCIs) contribute to 4.2% of Europe’s GDP, such as bars and restaurants, argue authors of the EY’s report entitled “Creative growth: measuring cultural and creative markets in the EU”.

More than 7m Europeans are directly or indirectly employed in creative and cultural activities this is 3.3% of the EU’s active population. Performing arts (1,234,500), visual arts (1,231,500) and music (1,168,000) employ more than 1m people each. Moreover, the sector is its third-largest employer, after construction and food and beverage service activities. It is dominated by young people - 15-29-year-olds. The share in the employment market reached 20%.

The gaming industry with annual growth reaching 9% y/y is considered as the fastest growing sector of the whole creative industry. It is worth noting that also the museum sector generates impressive incomes.

Europe after the US is the second biggest TV market in the world. Over 50% of the total TV incomes is generated by Great Britain, France and Germany. While event industry is responsible for 1/3 of the European creative sector’s revenues.

On the other hand, among industries that decreased their incomes there are: music, press books and advertising. It is due to the development of internet and the transfer of content and advertising budget to the net. Over the last decade internet has generated €30bn incomes, argue the authors of the report.

Poland as the fastes developing economy in UE
According to PwC forecasts published in “The World in 2050”, Poland will reach the highest average growth rate of all the major economies of the EU. The country is also expected to overtake Russia regarding the long-term growth.

Polish real average GDP growth by 2050 will reach about 2.7% per year, while in 2014-2020 period Poland will grow by 3.4% per annum. However, political crisis in Ukraine and economic problems which are constantly struggling euro zone are the most current challenges for the Polish economy.

According to the authors of the report China will be the largest economy by 2030, but in the long-term, the growth rate of the country will return to the global average. By 2050, India will compete with the United States for second place in the global ranking of GDP, while Indonesia, Mexico and Nigeria could push out Britain and France from the list of the top 10 economies. By 2050, Colombia and Poland will record significantly higher average growth rate than their larger neighbours in the region - Brazil and Russia.

The publication “The World in 2050: Is a shift in the balance of power the world's economies will be maintained?” presents the long-term potential GDP growth forecast for 2050 for the 32 largest economies in the world, producing 84% of the total world GDP. (PwC)

Deputy prime minister also recalled that Polish companies can learn about requirements of the global economy by operating in special economic zones, which proved to be a very useful mechanism of attracting foreign investors. However, in his opinion, Poland must now face with new challenges of rapidly changing international situation.

Poland needs an economic growth at the level of 3%. In his opinion, 3 factors will drive Polish economy: growing domestic market, investments in the corporate sector and the growth in exports.
