The effects of the presidential visit to China
One can observe the first results of the November’s economic visit of president Andrzej Duda and PAIiIZ business delegation to China. The innovation and computing cluster "Orzeł/Eagle " that has just been opened in Poznań is one of tchem.

Under the first phase of the PSNC-Huawei Innovation Centre, Huawei’s and PSNC research teams will start to collaborate on Cloud Computing systems, cloud storage as well as on supercomputers. The inauguration of the PSNC-Huawei Innovation Centre was held on 23 January 2016 in Poznań. With the inauguration of the Centre, Huawei also launched a computing cluster "Eagle / Eagle" in Poznań. It is one of the most energy-efficient systems in this part of the world, and one of the three most powerful systems of this kind in Poland. PSNC-Huawei Innovation Centre was established under an agreement signed in November 2015 in Shanghai during the Polish-Chinese Economic Forum with participation of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda.

9th Europe - Ukraine Forum
Political stability is a crucial factor when attracting investors. So is the recent shift of Ukrainian government towards European Union, argued Michał D±browski, PAIiIZ deputy president, during panel discussion on the 9th Europe - Ukraine Forum. The meeting was held on 24-26 January in ŁódĽ.

Once again, Ukraine made the effort to modernize and reform the economic system. The country has also decided to get closer to the Western Europe - those are the main conclusions of the Forum. “Now, Ukraine needs a lobbing actions proving that the country is trustworthy”, said D±browski.

Ambassador of Peru visiting PAIiIZ
Ambassador of Peru, Alberto Salas-Barahona paid a visit to PAIiIZ to talk about opportunities of economic cooperation with the Pacific Alliance. The meeting with PAIiIZ president Sławomir Majman was held on 26 January in PAIiIZ.

During the meeting Mr Majman declared the will to organise the seminar on cooperation opportunities between Poland and Peru. According to PAIiIZ president, Poland can collaborate with the Pacific Alliance mostly in the fishing and mining sectors.

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

Looking for new investment plots in Poland
Deputy president of PAIiIZ, Michał D±browski paid a visit to local authorities of Piekary ¦l±skie, Zabrze and Częstochowa to talk about investment areas offered by those PAIiIZ partnering cities. They also talk about mutual cooperation in attracting new businesses there.

“Each city is unique. Therefore we are doing our best to offer a “tailored-made” support for every PAIiIZ partner”, D±browski commented. Due to the partnership with PAIiIZ, every investor coming to the partnering city can expect the same, high quality information and assistance that will make the investment decision making much easier. Two investors in the Mielec SEZ
Two companies: AM UNI-MEBEL and Wipasz are to reinvest in the SEZ EURO-PARK Mielec. Both will build new production halls.

AM UNI-MEBEL is a company founded in 2014 in the Szczecin subzone of Mielec SEZ. The investor plans to build a production plant with social - office facility, where the furniture for the maritime industries and land will be launched. The second investor is Wipasz, a Polish producer of feed which plans to build a modern, fully equipped poultry slaughterhouse in in Międzyrzec Podlaski.

EURO-PARK Mielec SEZ is the oldest special economic zone in Poland. In 2015, Mielec SEZ celebrated its twenty years of operation. During this time, the expenditures of investors amounted to PLN 7.6 bn, and employment reached to 26,600 people. (MSEZ)

First investor in Suwałki SEZ in 2016
The first company in 2016 that received a permit to operate in the Suwałki Special Economic Zone is Cezar Nord-Plast.

The new investor intends to diversify the production of plastics products. Cezar Nord-Plast will invest PLN 5.85m and increase employment from 48 to 52 people.

Currently, there are 90 investors in the Suwałki Special Economic Zone, employing 6,500 people. In total, these companies has invested more than PLN 2.1 bn. (SSEZ)

JLR Supplier Days
PAIiIZ invites automotive companies to participate in the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Supplier Days, scheduled for March 2016 in the Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon, UK. The event is related to new JLR investment in Central and Eastern Europe.

The invitation is addressed to automotive enterprises active in Poland with even no past existing business relationship with JLR. Every participant must meet the following criteria: to be a Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplier; to have ISO/TS 16949 certificate and to have annual revenue above GBP 5m.

Companies interested in taking part in the event are requested to fill in application form and to send it to: dariusz.duda@paiz.gov.pl by 5 February 2016.

Gulf Industry Fair in Bahrain
Trade and Investment Promotion Section of the Polish Embassy in Abu Dhabi invites Polish companies to promote their products at the Polish national stand during the Gulf Industry Fair in Bahrain, held from 9 to 11 February 2016. The access on the stand is free of charge.

The offer is addressed to Polish companies operating in the following sectors: energy and the environment, the shipping, industrial processes and processing, metallurgy, steel and aluminium production and industrial logistics.

Towards Israel
Silesia Chamber of Commerce invites Poland-based companies to join economic mission to Israel that will be held between 6-11.03.2016.

The mission will include B2B sessions in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem with Israeli companies. The meeting will be arranged on request of Polish companies (to do that, please fill in the application form). There is a possibility to get up to 50% of co- founding of the participation in the mission.

GDP goes up
According to Central Statistical Office (GUS), in 2015 Poland improved its GDP. Also the domestic demand went up while foreign trade turnover was positive for the first time since years.

In 2015, real GDP increased by 3.6%y/y while the year before it grew by 3.3%y/y. So was the situation on the labour market. The percentage of people employed increased by 2% y/y. As GUS experts explain, it was the domestic demand that was the driving force of Polish economy in 2014.

In January - November 2015 period, Poland experienced a faster growth of exports than imports. What is more, for the first time since years, the value of export was higher than the imports, (EURO 15.6bn  and EURO 14.8bn, respectively). Developed countries were the main directions of Polish foreign trade. Poland send there 1.6% more goods than in 2014. Among the developed countries the exports to the UE predominated (79.4% of share) and went up by 1.9% y/y. CEE countries bought 5,3% of Polish exports. It means a decrease by 0.3%. In contrast, developing countries increased the share in Polish foreign trade by 0.4% to 9%.

Last year, the top three countries - recipients of Polish exports were: Germany (share of 27.2% and an increase by 0.9%y/y), United Kingdom (share of 6.7% and an increase by 0.3%y/y) and Czech Republic (share of 6.6% and an increase by 0.2%y/y). (GUS)

DID YOU KNOW...?

New ESA project was located in Poland
Poland will host infrastructure collecting data transmitted by satellites of European Space Agency (ESA). It is the first structure of its kind in Europe and one of the biggest ESA tenders won by a Polish consortium.

Images transmitted by the satellites over Europe are stored in several large processing centres in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Soon they will also be sent to Poland. The repository created in Poland will be one of the main centres of its kind in Europe and, under ESA, will, store all type of optical data from Earth observation satellites.

The analysis and storage of data from satellites are said to be one of the best paid businesses in the space sector. The data and findings from the satellites are used by many sectors - from defence and agriculture to road and sea transport. It is also used by scientists for their studies and predictions.
