PAIH supported Johnson&Johnson in setting up Warsaw-based global R&D centre of excellence

Johnson & Johnson Poland sp. z o.o., part of Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies, announced the opening of the Consumer Biomedical Information Centre (CoBIC) in Warsaw. CoBIC will be the first-ever global R&D centre of excellence within the company’s consumer sector. The Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) provided the investor with comprehensive location advisory.

CoBIC is home to a team of business, science, and data experts focused on the development, registration and launch of new Johnson & Johnson personal and consumer healthcare products worldwide. The state-of-the-art facility featuring a modern design supporting many functions, including regulatory, medical affairs, clinical operations and laboratory information systems. It will serve as a vital connection point not only for local employees, but throughout the rest of the world.

Poland has an immense pool of talent and is a hotbed for innovation that continues to grow,” said Frank Konings, Chief Operating Officer, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. “Poland’s overlapping business hours with all of our R&D centres around the world definitely helps the global integration. With the inauguration of CoBIC, we look forward to being an integral part of fueling the scientific prowess of the country and creating greater value for those we serve all around the world.”

The operations and strategy of the new site was led by Jean-Francois Porracchia, a 19-year Johnson & Johnson veteran and previous site head of the Consumer R&D center in Val de Reuil, France. He and his team were also strongly supported by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency which provided expert location advisory guidance at all stages of the decision-making process and ensured a soft landing for Johnson & Johnson Consumer in Warsaw. CoBIC will share its space with other Johnson & Johnson teams across the company’s pharmaceutical and medical device businesses, and the new center will house up to 90 colleagues by the end of 2019.

The Johnson & Johnson investment proves that innovative projects with strategic importance can be successfully implemented in Poland. We have very well educated people who want to work and create added value for the Polish economy,” - Tomasz Pisula, president of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, said. As he noted, the modern services sector (BSS) employs 280.000 people, including over 36.000 working at research and development centers. “Our agency alone supports 18 R&D investment projects that can create over 1.300 jobs,” - he added.
