The economy of Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship is largely influenced by its geographic location - its direct access to the Baltic Sea (via the Port of Szczecin) and the fact that it neighbours Germany and the Scandinavian countries. The distance between Szczecin, a European seaport and the voivodeship capital, and Berlin is a mere 130 kilometres. Until recently associated with ship-building and agriculture, the region is now developing various economic sectors, primarily the high-tech industries. The voivodeship is also making increasingly better use of renewable energy sources which may be observed in the growing number of wind-driven and thermal power stations.
