Backer expands manufacturing in Stargard and Pyrzyce

Swedish company Backer OBR Sp. z o.o. invests EUR 4.7 million (PLN 20 million) in expanding its production in Poland. The Investment will allow creating at least 300 new jobs.

Backer OBR will add an additional assembling facility and office building to its premises in Pyrzyce. Another production facility will be located in Stargard Szczeciński (zachodniopomorskie voivodship). Construction works in Pyrzyce are expected to be finished by the end of the first quarter of 2005. According to investment plans the 3,000 sq. meters facility will be manufacturing foil and tubular heating elements. Concerning the second object - in Stargard - construction works are in preparatory stage. Production should be commenced in H1 2005. The 3,000 sq. meters factory, which will be loctated in the Stargard Industrial Park, will employ 200 people. Its product range will include heating panels, high-power resistors and machinery for tubular heating elements production.

Backer OBR Sp. z o.o. launched its Polish operations in Szczecin in 1991 as OBR Sp. z o.o. In 1995 Swedish company Backer Elektro-Varme AB took over 30 per cent stake in the company and further increased its stake in the firm to 100 per cent in 1997.

In 1995 company’s headquarters were moved to Pyrzyce. Gradually growing production was a key factor behind investments in Pyrzyce, which resulted in constructing another production plant in Warnice near Stargard Szczeciński. Currently, the third factory will be constructed in Stargard Szczeciński.

Over the last 10 years Backer OBR has increased employment from 65 to about 800 in 2004. This year alone the company hired approximately 250 people.

Backer OBR is a subidiary of the Swedish company Backer BHV. Together with dozen or so of other European firms it represents a group of heating elements producers belonging to Swedish concern NIBE Industrier, which is quoted on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. NIBE Industrier is a world leader in developing and producing electrical heating components and systems, especially: tubular and foil heating elements, high-power resistors, heating pomps and fireplaces. Swedish firm has its production units in Sweden, Poland, Norway, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy and China.
