EXPO 2010 - the competition for the pavilion’s design has been concluded!11.12.2007On Tuesday 11th December, there was a PAIiIZ conference to announce the winners of the concept for the architectural design of the Polish Pavilion for EXPO 2012 in Shanghai. The conference took place, in the PAIiIZ Press Centre, in Warsaw.
The competition has aroused great interest. 20 projects were presented for the first stage of the competition from which 12 qualified to the second stage.
The competition’s jury is awarding three prizes and five distinctions. - We've tried to analyse the functional qualities of the pavilion designs, primarily the aesthetics, concept and colour - said Mrs Anna Kamińska, Vice-President of PAIiIZ. - We spent a long time discussing the distinctions, whereas with the prizes we were in agreement.

First prize in the competition won team of architects: Wojciech Kakowski, Marcin Mostafa, Natalia Paszkowska. The second had been given to the company K. Ingarden, J. Ewy Architekci Sp. z o.o., whereas the third prize went to the company Valode Et Pistre Architekci Sp. z o.o.
The financial reward for first place is 80 thousand PLN, for second and third 55 and 45 thousand PLN respectively. The authors of the five commended works will receive 20 thousand PLN each.

Of course the most valuable prize will be the opportunity to execute the project. The authors of the victorious project will - apart from the financial award - receive an invitation to participate in the public purchasing procedure in the unrestricted form (allowed under the Public Purchasing Laws in accord with art. 67 reg. 1 point 2). The subject of the order will be the specific preparation of the architectural project for the Polish Section’s Pavilion and the development of the terrain upon which the Pavilion is to be built.
The chairman of the nine person Competition Jury was Mr Jerzy Grochulski, the President of the Association of Polish Architects (SARP). Mrs Anna Kamińska, a Vice President of PAIiIZ and the General Commissioner of the Polish Section of the EXPO 2012 World Exhibition in Shanghai, had the position of Deputy Chair of the Jury. The Jury will judge the works for their innovative character, their functionality, and their unity and compatibility with the spatial requirements of the Exhibition’s Organiser’s. The assessment would also take into consideration the concept of the exposition’s programme, the cost of the project and its execution.

- The chosen works showed projects which were highly advanced and well conceived - Mr Jerzy Grochulski, the SARP President stated. - They should fulfil the expectations of not only our country and our responsibility for presenting its achievements and successes, but also of the Chinese visitors. It will enable those visitors that are unaccustomed to Poland, to remember our country through exciting presentations in terms of its architectural solutions - SARP's President added.
The competition for the architectural design of the Polish Pavilion was announced at the beginning of September 2007. The closing date for the submission of works was 3rd December. In January an exhibition of the submitted projects is planned at the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency.
