Following the administrative reforms of 1999, Poland has been divided into 16 voivodships (provinces), 373 poviats (districts) and 2,489 communes (gmina). Additionally, there are 65 urban communes endowed with poviat rights (larger towns) .
The voivodships draw up and implement regional development strategies which include international economic relations.
