Senegal - the Gateway to West Africa
“Senegal is one of the most important partner of Poland in Africa. I assure Polish companies of my support for their business activity in Senegal”, said Polish President Andrzej Duda during the Polish-Senegal Economic Forum, held on 27 October in Warsaw. The event was organised by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) and APIX - the Senegalese agency for investment promotion, at the occasion of the President of Senegal Macky Sall official visit to Poland. The conference was hosted by the president of PAIiIZ Tomasz Pisula.

“Senegal should be regarded as the gateway to West Africa. It is a stable democratic country which cares not only about its own safety, but also of the entire region”, said President Duda.

“This is first time, I participate in the economic forum which is attended by the president of the hosting country. It is very important”, said the President of Senegal Macky Sall. He noted that the purpose of his mission is to raise the bilateral economic cooperation to a strategic level. President Sall said, Senegal's priorities included modernisation of its road infrastructure, machinery, construction and energy sector, agriculture and agrifood industry and the development of tourism and education.

The official part of the Forum ended with the signing of cooperation agreements between the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone and the APIX and between the Employers of Poland (Pracodawcy RP) and the Conseil National du Patronat du Sénégal. Earlier, five agreements between Polish and Senegalese institutions was signed at the Presidential palace, including the MoU between PAIiIZ and APIX.

Senegal is a key partner of Poland in West Africa. More than half of Polish exports to the Senegalese market are an agri-food products. Also mineral and chemical products are important part of bilateral trade. From January to August 2016, the value of Polish exports to Senegal increased by over 20% and amounted to more than USD 35 million. Also imports increased (more than 29%), resulting in a positive trade balance of more than USD 57 million. (PAIiIZ)

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

Bombardier to produce body shells for high speed trains in Poland
Bombardier Transportation Poland, specialising in solutions for rail and aviation transport, invested PLN 250 million (EUR 50 million) in a new manufacturing facility in Wrocław, Poland. The plant will produce high speed train body shells and trailer bogies for Deutsche Bahn railways. The investment will create 100 new jobs and increase total employment to 800 jobs. The project was run by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency.

Wrocław plant is the first in Poland, joined the world's elite companies participating in the construction of high-speed trains.

For the production of the 28 meter long individual steel-bodied cars the company will introduce 3D laser welding technology, never used before in railway industry in Poland.

Investor intends to cooperate with Polish partners and suppliers. The production is to start at the beginning of November this year. (MR)

Skamol company to launch plant in Opole
Skamol, a Danish producer of insulation systems, starts the construction of its factory in Opole. The Polish factory is to produce silicate boards and blocks. The investors plans to employ 24 people. The project was serviced by PAIiIZ.

The company will carry out its investment within the Walbrzych Special Economic Zone. The investor is going to employ technical and engineering staff and is counting on cooperation with Polish universities, primarily the Opole University of Technology.

The investment is a result of the economic mission to Denmark in 2015 and is due to the cooperation of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ), Centre for Investor and Exporter Service (COIE) operating at The Opolskie Economic Development Centre (OCRG) and the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone.

The investor has chosen Opole because of the availability of raw materials, growing market, high quality of investors service, partnership in relations with the authorities, the scientific potential of the city and the presence of graduates, especially of Opole University of Technology.

The groundbreaking for the construction of the new factory was held on 2 November in Opole. The ceremony was attended by Vice President of PAIiIZ Krzysztof Senger.

Founded in 1912, Skamol owns several production plants in Denmark and one in Russia.

Warsaw: The world's first Nielsen Operation Centre
27 October in Warsaw, the first Global Operations Centre of Nielsen, the world leader in research and market analysis, has been officially opened. The facility will be a centre of innovative solutions in the field of data analysis and optimisation. The centre will employ 700 skilled workers. The project was run by PAIiIZ.

“The newly established Nielsen Operation Centre is a pro-innovative impulse, that Poland needs. It is also a contribution to the economic model that we presented in the Strategy for Responsible Development”, commented Deputy Minister of Development Tadeusz Kościński.

Nielsen Operations Centre in Poland will be the central hub and the first such centre in the world. Warsaw seat will cooperate with two other similar centres to be created in other countries, but will retain a leading role in innovation and optimisation of process for all markets where Nielsen operates.

The Warsaw centre will employ 700 employees - specialists in the field of data processing, business process design, statistical analysis, as well as managers. (MR)

Two Polish projects in the Euro-Park Mielec
Mielec Special Economic Zone has two new Polish investment projects worth jointly PLN 13 million.

Najlepszefoto.pl, the photographic platform for e-commerce which sells personalised photobooks, and photo calendars in Poland, Germany and the UK is to buy equipment to produce high quality photoproducts. In its plant in Trzebowisko near Rzeszów, the company will hire 15 new employees. The value of investments will amount to PLN 5 million.

The second project is the reinvestment of GARO, Polish producer of electrical equipment. The company is to invest PLN 8 million in a production and storage hall, where 10 new jobs will be created.

In 2016, Mielec SEZ has gained 30 investors who declared investment outlays of nearly PLN 648 million and creation of 713 new jobs. (ARP)

7th MotoSolution - best practices in automotive business
Forum MotoSolutions is one of the most popular conference dedicated to the automotive industry in Poland. The event is directed primarily to managers and middle managers of manufacturing plants.

This year, participants will learn about the impact of ongoing investments of such companies as Volkswagen Poznań (factory in Września), GM Manufacturing Poland, MAN Truck & Bus (Starachowice) on the automotive industry. Also "good practice" of TRW Steering Systems Poland, Cooper Standard Poland, NSK Steering Systems Europe (Poland) and GEDIA will be presented there.

During the banquet at the end of the first day of the Forum, the Award Ceremony of the Polish Automotive Industry will be held. Candidates for the awards can be submitted on-line Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency took patronage over the event.

II Innovative Manufacturing Forum
The II Innovative Manufacturing Forum will focus on development and competitiveness of industrial production. The event will be held from 9 to 10 November at the Warsaw Radisson Blu Hotel.

The event is dedicated to decision-makers of industrial companies, representatives of the governmental institutions and experts specialising in the production and new technologies. The meeting is aimed at the exchange of experiences and will help to find solutions that will effectively support the development of innovative industry in Poland.

Poland advances in Doing Business ranking
Poland systematically advances in the World Bank's "Doing Business", the most famous and prestigious rank, evaluating the conditions of doing business in the world. Within a decade, Poland has advanced by 30 positions, from 54th in 2006, to 24th position this year.

Poland improved overall position in such categories as getting electricity and dealing with construction permits. According to experts of the World Bank, starting a business, paying taxes and enforcing contracts.

In many cases, it is not the costs associated with the implementation of procedures, but the time-consuming and disruptive that cause the difficulties in doing business in our country.

Poland was ranked ahead of other Visegrad countries, Romania and Bulgaria, but behind the Baltic countries (Estonia (12), Latvia (14),and Lithuania (21).

The leader of the ranking is New Zealand, which has overtaken this year Singapore and Denmark.
