Kongres 590: releasing Poland's business power
590 kongres In Rzeszów, a two-day congress dedicated to issues related to supporting Polish business and its foreign expansion was held. The “Kongress 590” that started on 17 November, was attended by Polish President Andrzej Duda, prime minister Beata Szyd³o and representatives of public institutions including Polish Development Found and PAIiIZ. During congress, the Agency president, Tomasz Pisula made a speech about the economic diplomacy.

“Only by strengthening competitive economy that includes manufacturing high-tech products and developing innovations as well as promoting reliability and ethics in business, we can provide a high standard of living for every Polish citizen”, said President Andrzej Duda during the congress. He also added that creating such economy and building a solid ground for entrepreneurship in Poland are among the major tasks of the president and the Polish government. He also emphasized that innovative economy is being developed not only by the youngest generation of Polish entrepreneurs but also by family businesses. (PAIiIZ)

Hungarians awarded Polish design

The fine Polish porcelain from Ĉmielów, as well as unique lamps and artistic glass from Poland were chosen as the best pieces of “Designed in Poland” exhibition that was held in Budapest, Hungary.

In the first part of November, the inhabitants of Budapest had the unique opportunity to watch the variety of products that were made Poland. Polish jewellery, artistic glass and fashion designs were presented at the “Designed in Poland” exhibition arranged by PAIiIZ.

Choosing the best piece of the Designed in Poland exhibition is one of the elements of the project. The Hungarian audience that watched the Polish design at ALLEE Bevásárlóközpont city mall in Budapest was astonished of the Polish artistic glass.

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

Zalando invests in Gryfino
Four years after the official launch of Zalando online store in Poland, the company is expanding its logistics network and builds a new logistics centre in the West Pomerania region. The groundbreaking ceremony of Zalando’s fulfilment centre was held on 18 November 2016 in Gardno, near Gryfino. The project was supported by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ).

The company decided to invest in Poland as a result of the great commercial success of Zelando’s on-line shop in Poland. The company is present in Poland since just 4 years. “The competitiveness of Polish e-commerce market was crucial for the decision of our investment“, said David Schroeder, Senior Vice President of Zalando Operations. Zalando logistics network currently comprises three fulfilment centres in Germany and a warehouse in Northern Italy.

Katowice SEZ with new projects worth PLN 320m
Seven new investment projects with a total value of over PLN 320m enters Katowice Special Economic Zone. New investors will create a total of 235 new jobs due to them all.

Majority of the new projects are reinvestment. One of them, a PLN 90m-woth investment will be run by the Korean manufacturer of automotive accessories Nifco Korea Poland. Operating since 2011 in the subzone Jastrzêbie-Żory, the company purchased a plot neighbouring the factory, where a paint shop will be built. Under the investment, the company will also employ 70 people. The third permit to operate in Katowice SEZ was received by MCS. For PLN 35m, this manufacturer of exhaust systems for the automotive industry will establish new automatic production lines and hire 18 workers. In Zabrze, CH Estate VII together with YS Poland Autoparts will build a new production hall where 45 people will be employed. The costs of the project will reach PLN 35m. A business permit to run project worth PLN 100m in Bielsko Biala went to Eaton Automotive Systems - the American manufacturer of automotive systems for such brands as Daimler, Maserati, Ferrari, VW, Ford, PSA and Fiat. The business activity in the Katowice Special Economic Zone will be extended by Pureko, a Polish producer of polyether flexible foams. Since February 2015, the company has been implementing an investment in Myszków. Now, it invest PLN 13m in the project.

Among the new players in the zone there is Sapa Poland, the Italian manufacturer of automotive interiors. Its investment of PLN 40m will be implemented in Sosnowiec-Dabrowska sub-zone. Sapa will create 70 new jobs. The Jastrzêbie-Zdroj greenfield investment will be implemented by Ekop - Energy, Polish producer of wooden houses. This representative of the SME segment will invest PLN 5m for the new projects.

In 2016, The Katowice Special Economic Zone SA attracted 24 investors giving them 22 new business permits. The total investment exceeds PLN 1.6 bn. Nearly 1,400 new jobs will be create due to them. By the end of the year the zone is expected to give six new business permits to the incoming projects. (SEZ)

PAIiIZ workshop: How to export food to China
Chinese consumers are said to spend 76% more to buy Western food than on this made in China. Therefore, on 8 December, PAIiIZ invites all to join the workshop entitled: “Exporting Food & Beverage products to China”, dedicated to opportunities of the Chinese food market.

The consumer trends in China are the opportunity of Polish food producers, especially the ecologic ones. Every year, the sale of foreign food is rising in China. It is because of a common opinion among Chinese about the high quality and safety of food from abroad.

During the workshop, participants will be provided with crucial information regarding the specifics of Chinese market, its barriers, law regulatory or trade mark protection. One will also have the opportunity to learn about distribution of food in China and how to negotiate with Chinese partners.

Premiere of the new Investing in Poland report
On 29 November, Warsaw Business Journal will present the 8th Investing in Poland report. The premiere of the report will be held in the Warsaw Stock Exchange. PAIiIZ is a strategic partner of this publications.

Issued once a year, Investing in Poland report examines the trends and sectors in Foreign Direct Investment. The presentation of the report will be preceded by the panel discussion between experts in FDI and representatives of investor.

DID YOU KNOW...?

60 million PLN for start-up acceleration
10 business accelerators have been chosen in the governmental contest to support the development of start-ups together with the public partners. Among them there are three special economic zones. The budget of this project amounts to PLN 60 m.

The Scale UP contest is the first element of the Start in Poland government programme, which is the largest in Central - Eastern Europe Platform supporting start-ups. The aim of the project is to match the regional start-ups with infrastructure, experience and resources of Polish enterprises, including the Treasury companies.

Among 60 participants of the contest, the organizers selected 10 subjects which will be responsible for the professional development plan, financial support or acquiring strong and large business partners to provide mentoring for young innovative companies, operating in area of the National Smart Speculations. Under the project, start-ups will have also the possibility to test their ideas and products before commercialization.

Each accelerator is to support at least 20 start-ups, what gives jointly 200 hi-tech project that will be supported in two years.
