OECD: Poland has a great untapped potential

The latest data published by OECD shows that relaxation of regulations could boost Poland's GDP by 14%. Poland’s potential received the highest estimation among the 24 countries selected and examined by OECD.

On Wednesday, Aug. 24 the Puls Biznesu (PB) daily quotes OECD experts who claim that Poland has a great untapped potential which could easily enhance the country’s economic performance. OECD says that relaxing regulations concerning the most important sectors of the Polish economy can increase their capacity (and consequently the country’s GDP) by 14% within the coming 10 years. The deregulation may be a way to tackle possible consequences of the last crisis or potential wave of another slowdown. (PB)

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

New inwestor in the Starachowice SEZ

Wijas constructs a new factory in the Morawice subzone of the SEZ.

Wijas was granted the business activity permission on August 18th, 2011. In the new factory the company will start production of electric water heaters as well as metal and plastic components. The new plant will be constructed at Morawica subzone.

Wijas will invest at least PLN 1 500 000 and will increase employment from23 to 26 people. The project is expected to be finalised by June 30th, 2016.

This year the Starachowice SEZ has issued 11 business activity permissions which will jointly generate investment projects worth PLN 130 571 500 and will create at least 134 jobs. (Starachowice SEZ)

1st inwestor in the Przemyśl subzone

A window manufacturer REM II will be the first company to construct a production facility in the Przemyśl subzone.

The facility will measure 5 000 m2. It is estimated that the project worth nearly PLN 6 million will start this year. The company, which is a well-known window producer enjoying excellent reputation, and the cooperating firms have currently been employing over 200 people. Around 30% of the company’s products are exported to Italy, Germany, France, Slovakia and Ukraine. (www.przemysl.pl)

The following version of Opel Astra IV will be produced next year in Gliwice

In October 2011, in the General Motors Manufacturing Poland (GMMP) factory a series production of Opel Astra IV GTC will start. According to AutomotiveSuppliers.pl it is not the only premiere that is associated with the plant in Gliwice.

Next year, in August 2012, the following version of the car body of Astra IV will leave the GMMP assembly lines. The new project concerns the notchback version - the four-door sedan, which will replace the currently produced Astra III sedan.

Originally, the car production was to take place in April next year, but the date has been postponed due to the face-lifting of all the versions of the Astra IV’s car bodies.

As the AutomotiveSuppliers.pl unofficially learned, ultimately over 40 thousand pieces of Astra IV sedan can be produced annually.

The GMMP factory has been operating since 1997 and employs around 3 thousand people. (AutomotiveSuppliers.pl)

No summer holidays in the Mielec SEZ

The investments started in July and August this year in the Mielec Euro-Park SEZ already amount up to PLN 33,4 million.

The Industry Development Agency that is in charge of the Mielec based SEZ issued during the summer season three investment permissions. The three new projects amount together to PLN 33,4 million and it is projected that they will create 53 jobs.

„Efekt Plus”, one of the leading producers of the “stretch” foil plans to buy a plot in Rogoźnica, in Głogów Małopolski district and to construct the production plant.

The projected employment is supposed to reach 40 persons. The capital investment should amount to PLN 26,4 mln.

„Clear Air” R&D Centre is going to build a shop floor in the Mielec SEZ Industrial Park. Realization of the project would enable conducting such activities as: consulting and execution of the technical analysis, environmental preservation laboratory analysis, bioenergetics, specialist chemistry and hydro- and aeroponic cultivations.

The R&D Centre in SEZ Mielec would be the first one in the Podkarpackie Voivodship and one of the first in Poland that deals with issues of environmental protection, food-safety and bioenergetics.

Total investment capital would reach PLN 4 million and seven persons would be employed.

The third permission was obtained by “Spiroflex”, a company that has been operating in the SEZ since 1997. This project intends to extend already existed productive capacities by introducing to the production cycle higher- technical parameter machines and appliances.

The investment should be finished by 2013. The investment capital is supposed to reach PLN 3 million. The company is going to employ another 6 employers what would amount to 89 persons altogether working in the company. (Euro-Park Mielec)

NSK in Wałbrzych develops its factory

NSK Steering Systems Europe, producer of passenger cars steering systems, is going to build-up its factory in Wałbrzych subzone.

NSK Steering Systems Europe Polska will expand the production complex plant at the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone. The value of investment is 545 thous. On the plant of 1,4 ha the new object will be constructed, among them 3 warehouses of 5 thousand sq m area 5 tys. And paved areas of 9 thousand sq m. The investor will hire 10 people. (NSK)

Faster trains closer and closer

Faster/modern trains on their way to Warsaw. PKP Intercity has ensured financial support for the realization of the high speed rail project. Trains will run on the routes between Warsaw and Gdansk/Gdynia, Warsaw- Krakow and Warsaw - Katowice.

On the 17th of Aug. PKP Intercity signed an agreement with the Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUTP) to co-finance the project from the EU funds. Due to the contract the company would obtain the first tranche of the money for the purchase of the modern trains.

Worth 430 million Euro contract for the delivery of 20 high-speed trains and the construction of the technical base was signed with the consortium Alstom on the 30th of May.

For the first 10 years the new trains would run on the routes: Warszawa-Gdańsk/Gdynia, Warszawa-Krakow and Warszawa-Katowice

The passengers would also see the difference as the travel time will considerably shorten. From Warsaw to Gdansk the trip would take only 2,5 hours and from Warsaw to Katowice and Krakow – just  a bit more than 2 hours. Trains on these routes would departure every hour.

Summer harvest in PAIiIZ

This years holidays at the Agency were very busy. On the 30th of August 2011 during a conference at PAIiIZ a detailed presentation on the closed investment projects of the last two months will take place.

Despite the recent disinvestments reported by NBP, PAIiIZ does not complain about lack of work. The Agency is currently carrying out more projects than in the corresponding period of last year. Details of the closed investments of the last two months will be presented during a press briefing that will be held on the 30th of August at 10.30 at the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency at Bagatela Street 12. Single Market Forum

Single Market Forum is going to take place in Krakow at the beginning of October. The organizers invites to take part in the free of charge meetings dedicated to the single market.

European Parliament, European Commission and the Ministry of Economy of Poland in the framework of the Polish Presidency invite to a Single Market Forum [SIMFO]. The Forum will take place on the 2nd - 4th of October 2011 in the Auditorium Maximum of the Jagiellonian University, Krupnicza 33 Street, Krakow.

The aim of the SIMFO is to support and develop the single market through the promotion of the knowledge among entrepreneurs and citizens about their rights and opportunities.

During the two days of the Forum, participants would be able to take part in a panel discussions, meetings and workshops dedicated to the issues of the single market. (Please find more information about all the workshops on the website: ec.europa.eu/internal_market/top_layer/smf_workshops_pl.htm).

The opening of the Forum will be proceeded by the promotional event called Single Market Fair that is going to start on the 2nd of October at the Main Market Square in Krakow.

So called „Declaration of Krakow” will sum up the SIMFO. It is going to include the commitments to undertake specific actions related to use of the opportunities and the further development of the single market.

Match-making at the Elmia Subcontractor Fairs

PARP invites for the pre-booked meetings during the Swedish fairs for subcontracting industry.

The match-making sessions are organized for companies representing the sectors of machine building and electro/electronics industry focused on: manufacturing methods, products and components, material, raw-material and semifinished products, design and development, tools and fixtures.

The meeting will take place during the international ELMIA Subcontractor fairs, on November 8th-9th in Jönköping, Sweden. The participants describe their profile on www.b2fair.com/elmia2011 and choose the companies that they wish to meet during the 25-minutes-meetings.

The organizers expect the participation of big companies from automotive sector searching for subcontractors. Last year’s edition of the fairs was visited by 140 companies from 17 countries.

Zgorzelec invites to the conference

The economy conference is going to take place in Zgorzelec Culture Centre on the 15th and 16th of September. The City will present its investment offer.

The conference is dedicated to the presentation of Zgorzelec’s investment offer with special focus on the Zgorzelec Subzone of the Kamienna Góra Special Economic Zone, as well as economic and tourist potential of the Europe-Town Goerlitz/Zgorzelec.

The meeting will be attended by the representatives of local authorities, companies actively operating in the region and institutions hoping to gain new employees.

On September 7th, during the Economic Forum in Krynica, PAIiIZ organizes a panel discussion dedicated to relations with China.

Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency under the patronage of the Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies organizes a panel discussion: “China - Central-Eastern Europe”. Polish export to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Ukraine

The conference „Export Finance II – Prospects for the commerce development between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Vietnam” is going to take place in the Warsaw School of Economics on the 14th of September.

The aim of the „Export Finance” meetings is to introduce the specificity of conducting business activity and the commerce in the particular countries.

The organizers will also provide information about the opportunities of presenting products and services, which are available thanks to the support of governmental support programs.

Theme sessions are going to be run by Polish economic diplomacy experts, commercial counselors from the foreign embassies, experts on insurance and finance and the business practitioners with experience in the given countries.

The conference is going to take place in the Warsaw School of Economics on the 14th of September 2011 (Wednesday) between 10.00 and 16.30.

The Economist: Poland rises in the crisis

According to „The Economist” weekly Poland has handled crisis best in Europe and is among the top countries in the world.

The Economist’s analysis classifies the countries according to GDP growth from 4th Q of 2007 to 2nd Q of 2011. China took the first place with the economic growth a the level of 30%. The next positions are for India, Argentina and Indonesia. Poland took the 5th place with 10% GDP growth. Among the G7 countries only Germany is on plus. The last in the ranks are Ireland, Greece and Italy. (The Economist)
