Increasing the investment attractiveness of Ukraine
The project stimulating the economy of Ukraine, as well as enhancing its capacity to attract foreign capital has just been initiated by the Polish government. Focused on development of local government in this country, the programme will be lead jointly by Polish Ministry of Development, PAIiIZ and Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, announced deputy minister of development Jerzy Kwieciński, minister of economy development Stepan Kubiv and PAIiZ president Bartłomiej Pawlak at the beginning of July, in Kiev.

The project stimulating the economy of Ukraine, as well as enhancing its capacity to attract foreign capital has just been initiated by the Polish government. Focused on development of local government in this country, the programme will be lead jointly by Polish Ministry of Development, PAIiIZ and Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, announced at the beginning of July, in Kiev deputy minister of development Jerzy Kwieciński, minister of economy development Stepan Kubiv and PAIiZ president Bartłomiej Pawlak.

The programme is a part of the Polish Ministry of Development strategy of supporting business development in Poland’s partner-countries of CEE, mainly Ukraine. INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

Chunxing Group opens a prototyping workshop in Trójmiasto
Global manufacturer of precise aluminium structures, Chunxing Group, opens a prototyping workshop in Trójmiasto. It is the first phase of the development provided by this Chinese company in Pomerania, which once again proves that the region has a potential of becoming the European gateway for the Chinese investors.

The core products of the company are aluminium components for telecom, automotive, medical and other industries. Chunxing is manufacturing precision mechanical machining, sheet metal stamping, plastic injection moulding and delivers its products for such companies as NSN, Flex, Samsung, ABB, Philips, Schneider. The total production area of the company reaches over 300,000m2 while the total employment is over 5000 people in its facilities worldwide - in India, Finland, the UK, Canada, the US and China. Now, Chunxing opens a new facility in Gdańsk to provide quick machining prototyping and warehouse/logistic service to European customers.

“Since now, Chinese investments in Poland were mostly focused on Margins and Acquisitions (M&A). We have known that China is interested in Poland, however, the country didn’t benefit from that much. Chunxing investment is different. It will generate a constant creation of new jobs. New people will be hired within the development of the project” - comments Bartłomiej Pawlak, head of PAIiIZ that supported the investment from the early beginnings.

Velvet Care invests in SEZ
Velvet Care, Polish producer of paper hygiene products expands its plan in Klucze (Małopolska) operating under the Kraków Special Economic Zone.

The company is to invest PLN 160m and hire at least 50 people there. Now, Velvet employs over 270 people. It also conducts research and development activities and cooperates closely with universities - especially with the Cracow and ŁódŒ University of Technology. (KPT)

Wessel-Poliamid in Kłodzko
About 150 people will work at the plant of Wessel-Poliamid in Dolna Jaszkowa near Kłodzko. The modern factory, located in Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone, will manufacture accessories for vacuum cleaners.

The investment includes the construction of plantwarehouse with office space and infrastructure. The factory will produce the accessories for household and industrial vacuum cleaners. The plant will be use environmentally friendly technology, for example heating will be based on the heat generated in the production process.

The company declared to invest over PLN 25m and will employ at least 100 people, however the employment is expected to increase to 150 jobs. (WSEZ)

New investments in the Mielec SEZ
The production of photovoltaic panels and food products will soon begin in the EURO-PARK Mielec Special Economic Zone.

ML SYSTEM, the producer of solar cells and photovoltaic modules received the third business permit in the Trzebownisko sub-zone. This time, the investor intends to implement and launch the production of ultralight photovoltaic panels used in construction sector. The company is to invest PLN 35m and create 20 new jobs.

The next investor is ABK KOMPLET, the manufacturer of bakery and confectionery products, who begins to operate in the Szczecin sub-zone. The company is to construct a plant. ABK KOMPLET declares to invest more than PLN 39m and to hire 35 new employees. (Euro-Park Mielec)

Visit of Chinese Minister Lu Xinhua
On the occasion of the visit of the Chairman of Council for Promoting South-South Cooperation (CPSSC), Minister Lu Xinhua in Poland, PAIiIZ invites companies and media to participate in the "Dialogue on China-Poland Production Capacity Cooperation". The event is organized jointly by PAIiIZ and CPSS.

H.E. Xu Jian, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Poland will hosts the conference together with Mr Bartłomiej Pawlak, Acting President of the Board in PAIiIZ.

The conference will focus on promoting bilateral business cooperation between Poland and China. One will have the opportunity to meet with Chinese companies from such sectors as: banking, textile industry, production of cables and wires, electrical equipment, medical equipment, production and sale of cement, road and rail infrastructure, construction and real estate, water treatment, agriculture, tourism, cultural exchange, learning the Chinese language and pharmacy.

The event starts on July 14t at 9.30 in Regent Warsaw Hotel, Belwederska 23 Str., Warsaw.

The unemployment the lowest since 8 year
According to Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Care, in June 2016, the unemployment in Poland was the lowest in eight years.

The registered unemployment rate in June was 8.8%, that was 0.3 percentage points less than in May 2016 and 1.4 percentage points less y/y. Declines in unemployment were recorded in all Polish regions, including Warmia and Mazury (the region with the highest unemployment level in the country) where is went down the most, by 0.7 point. As for the number of unemployed, the largest decreases recorded Pomerania, West Pomerania, and Warmia-Mazury and Małopolska. (MPiPS)

Augustów creates investment areas
Augustów, the city in north-eastern Poland, received EU subsidies of PLN 9.2m to prepare 20 hectares of investment plots designated for the industrial production. The project is co-financed by the EU Regional Operational Programme for Podlaskie Voivodeship (RPOWP) 2014-2020.

The authorities of Augustów intend to equip 20 hectares of investment area with water supply, sanitation and drainage. The whole are will be operating under the Economic Activity Zone. According to the local government, the establishment of special zone will increase the investment attractiveness of the community, attract new partners and deliver new jobs to the region. The total cost of the investment is PLN 9.7 m. (www.wrotapodlasia.pl)

Young scientists awarded
10 brilliant young scientists from Poland won the MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Award.

Every year, the MIT Technical Review selects rising stars of science and social life who have come up with an innovations that can change the world. In Poland, the award has been given for the second time. This year’s winners were chosen from 150 the most ambitious young people in the country.


Polish winners of MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35

In 2016, the MIT Technical Review Innovators Under 35 Award in Poland went to: Patrycja Wizińska-Socha for inventing Pregnabit, the first tele-CTG mobile device, allowing parents to freely administer examinations of an unborn baby from home. For her invention, Wizińska-Socha received a special mention. Arkadiusz Stopczyński was appreciated for portable brain scanner, while Łukasz Kołtowski for portable smart spirometer that will improve the lives of patients with pulmonary diseases. Katarzyna Kamińska’s research may soon lead to the invention of a drug that could cure the flu, irrespective of the strain. For blind people next innovator from Poland, Petros Psyllos, created a device with 14 sensors allowing them to interpret their surroundings through audio messages. The Award also went to Bartłomiej Kołodziejczyk for inventing technology that allows one to create organic electrochemical transistors and cheap solar cells. Krystian Pieæko’s DataWalk - a big data platform accelerates data integration and analysis by up to ten times. The next platform, called Amizo, this time for fast and very cheap money transfer was created Marta Krupińska. While the special mention and the name of named Social Innovator of went to Rafał Flis.
