PAIiIZ on the lookout for investors in China

The Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency is organizing an investment mission to China.

The purpose of the mission is to establisht contacts with Chinese companies interested in international expansion and to present of investment opportunities in Poland to representatives of Chinese business and government.

The Polish delegation includes, among others, Sławomir Majman, PAIiIZ President; Artur Malec, President of the Management Board of the Kostrzyn-Słubice Special Economic Zone; Jarosław Marszałek and Mirosław Soborak, Deputy Presidents of the city of Częstochowa; Wiesław Byczkowski, Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodship; Marcin Krupa, Deputy President of Katowice and Andrzej Kaczmarek, consultant at KPMG.

From June 25th to July 1st, 2011 the mission participants will have meetings at SAIETC (Shanghai Association of International Economic & Technological Cooperation), will visit leading industrial centers in Shanghai, Chongqing and Chengdu and will participate in investment seminars organized in cooperation with the Department of Trade and Investment Promotion of the Polish Embassy in Beijing and CCPIT (China Council for the Promotion of International Trade) with which PAIiIZ will sign a cooperation agreement. Polish companies in Brazil - trade mission to Rio de Janeiro

The Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency organized a multi sectoral trade mission to Brazil.

On June14th, 2011 PAIiIZ in cooperation with the Trade and Investment Promotion Section at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Sao Paulo and the State Commercial Association of Rio de Janeiro organized the Polish-Brazilian Economic Forum. During the Forum Polish companies had the opportunity to hold B2B talks with companies from Brazil and could present their trade and cooperation offer.

On June 15th, 2011 participants of the mission took part in the biggest oil and gas fairs in Latin America - Brazil Offshore 2011 in Macaé. The Trade and Investment Promotion Section in Sao Paolo organised a stand which gave the Polish companies possibility to establish business contacts.

The mission took place from June 13th to 17th, 2011 and was attended by representatives of Fabryka Przyrządów i Uchwytów Bison-Bial, Szczecińska Stocznia Remontowa Gryfia, DZT Fabryka Samochodów in Lublin, Zakład Usługowo-Produkcyjny „Roztocze”, POL-MOT Warfama and POL-INOWEX. The trade mission was organised and co-financed from the system project “Promotion of Polish economy on international markets” (sub measure 6.5.1 Operational Programme - Innovative Economy). Poems in the Tube - time for Polish poetry in nine capitals of the world

PAIiIZ is a partner of the project.

On the occasion of the Czesław Miłosz Year and the Polish Presidency in the EU, a promotional campaign Poems in the Tube will be lounged. The project, which in Warsaw takes place for the fourth time, will be presented also outside the country. In previous years European poetry was presented in Warsaw. Now, under the Polish Presidency in the European Union, Polish contemporary poets and their poems will be presented in tubes not only in Warsaw, but also in eight capitals abroad. The campaign will be held in London, Paris, Madrid, Kiev, Beijing and Tokyo. Exhibitions of Polish poetry will also appear in the European Commission buildings in Brussels and Luxembourg.

Having in mind PAIiIZ’s mission, which embraces the presentation and creation of a positive image of Poland across the world, the Agency is a partner of the project. Campaigns in all the capitals include: exhibition of Polish poetry in subways, meetings with the authors, contests for haiku poetry, workshops for young people and happenings. Thanks to theses events residents of the nine capitals will get to know poems of Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, Jacek Dehnel and Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało, as well as young poets.

As part of the project a poetry competition will be held. All poetry lovers across Poland are invited to take part in the haiku competition dedicated to Poland and Warsaw.

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

3M opens two new production facilities in Poland

On June 22nd, 2011 3M opened two factories producing goods for the space, aviation and automotive industries. The new Wrocław-based plants will employ over 100 people.

The opening of the new 3M factories is an important part of the company’s strategy which envisages construction of the European Centre for Manufacturing. The company, present in Poland for 20 years now, has currently been running eight production plants - six of them are located in Wroclaw.

- We are glad that we will start another production line in Wrocław because the European division of 3M, responsible for products for the aerospace industry, plays an important role in the strategy of the whole group. The plants cover 40% of global demand for films and adhesives. Wrocław’s geographical location will help improve the distribution of our materials to other countries in the region - explains Denise Rutherford, CEO for 3M Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance.

- To date, we have invested in Poland, about USD350 million. We do not want to slow down the pace, and we will only this year invest here another USD83 million. Our plan is to make Poland the key country for 3M, the country which will produce the majority of products exported to markets in Central and Eastern Europe - adds John Bowers, director of production and logistics at 3M for CEE and MEA.

One of the new 3M plants, manufacturing products for the aerospace industry, will produce films, adhesives and thermoset protective films. Clients of AAMD (Aerospace & Aircraft Maintenance Division) include companies such as Airbus, Bell and Boeing. Production at the plant in Wroclaw will be conducted and supervised with the use of the quality management system in the aerospace industry ISO 9000, AS 9100 (extended air quality standard). The second plant will focus on the production of components used in the construction of ceramic catalytic filters for diesel cars, trucks and buses. Catalytic converters and diesel filters must meet strict requirements for exhaust emission standards in force in the European Union.

The opening ceremony of the new 3M facilities was held in the presence of the Marshal of the Polish Sejm - Grzegorz Schetyna, Head of the Lower Silesia region - Ilona Antoniszyn-Klik, President of Wrocław - Rafał Dutkiewicz, President of Pracodawcy RP- Andrzej Malinowski, President of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency - Sławomir Majman and representatives of the Embassy of the United States.

3M Poland is a subsidiary of the concern Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. In 2011, the company is celebrating is 20 years of presence on the Polish market and a decade of production activities in the country. 3M now has eight manufacturing facilities and employs more than 1,500 people. 3M existing investments in Poland amounted to around USD 350 million. Exports in automotive industry in 2011

AutomotiveSuppliers: The first two months of 2011 saw high increase in automotive exports.

March this year saw exports from the Polish automotive industry reach more than EUR 1.86 billion. The obtained result is not only better than export figures for March 2010 (+11.79%) but is also better than in the record-high March 2008. Germany (27.26%) traditionally tops the list of major export markets in the field. After several months of decline there was an increase in exports to Italy (2nd place).

After the first quarter of 2011, exports from the Polish automotive industry increased by almost 19% y-o-y and reached EUR5.11 billion i.e. EUR100 million more than in the record 2008. The increase in exports of Polish automotive industry can bee seen in 9 out of 10 major markets. Germany remains the largest recipient of the goods (27.49% of all exported products). There was a slight decline in exports to the Italian market (14.13% of exports). The third market is the UK with 9.1%. The highest increases, among the most important markets, were recorded in exports to Turkey (7th position) and Russia (9th place).

PAIiIZ on the 5th Małopolska Investment Forum

The major topic of this year's Forum was the impact of Polish membership in the European Union on foreign investment.

Among panelists invited by the Head of the Małopolska region Marek Sowa there were: Marek Popiołek , representative of the Ministry of Economy; Mirosław Odziemczyk, PAIiIZ pleipotentiary for cooperation with special economic zones; Vladislav Chipala, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Poland and experts from the banking sector, labor market and the investment market.

Marek Sowa presented regional actions which should raise investment attractiveness of Małopolska. He focused on the significant investment potential of the region, showed advantages arising from its geographical location and emphasized the availability of human capital. Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and PAIiIZ discussed the advantages and the general investment climate of the country in the context of other EU member states. Mr Popiołek and Mr Odziemczyk drew attention to opportunities which have been arising in the dynamically developing Kraków Technology Park.

Traditionally the Forum enjoyed the patronage of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency. The Forum was managed and organized by the Marshal Office of the Małopolska Region. (PAIiIZ)

Companies willing to increase employment

Manpower Employment Outlook Survey: Poland’s employers anticipating a steady hiring pace - more than one in five expects to increase staffing levels.

According to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey released on June 14th , Polish employers in all industry sectors and in all regions report positive hiring intentions in the third quarter. The Net Employment Outlook stands at +14%, a slight increase from three months ago.

Of the 751 Polish employers surveyed, 22 percent anticipate adding to their workforces in the coming quarter, 8 percent plan reductions and 67 percent expect no change in the July-September time frame.

Poland’s Outlook remains one of the most optimistic forecasts among the 21 EMEA countries surveyed. After Turkey (+32%) and Romania (+20%). Employer hiring intentions in Poland are matched by those in Bulgaria.

Quarter 3 Outlooks are positive in all surveyed industry sectors. Similar to three months ago, Construction sector (+26%) employers report the most optimistic hiring plans, as in the Mining & Quarrying and Restaurants & Hotels industry sectors. the Net Employment Outlook reached +18%, the strongest level since Q1 2009.

The most modest hiring plans are reported by employers from the Electricity, Gas & Water Supply sectors.

Regional comparisons reveal positive Outlooks for the third quarter in all six surveyed regions. Job prospects are strongest in the Central region with a Net Employment Outlook of +20%. This optimism is also growing in South and South-West region. Employers from the North and North-West regions (both at +10%) report the country’s weakest.

The Manpower survey’s global results show that third-quarter hiring expectations are positive in 35 of 39 countries and territories, with Net Employment Outlooks improving quarter-over-quarter in 20 countries and territories and in 24 compared to 12 months ago. Hiring intentions for the next three months are strongest in India, Brazil, Taiwan, Turkey and Singapore, while those in Spain, Greece, Italy and Ireland are the weakest and only negative forecasts reported.

Manpower Group releases the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey quarterly to measure employers’ intentions to increase or decrease the number of employees in their workforce during the next quarter. The survey was conducted between 21st April and 4h May 2011 on the representative group of 751 employers in Poland. Entrepreneurs from Eastern Poland on International Air Show Paris

Businessmen from Eastern Poland, including 15 members of the Aviation Valley cluster in Podkarpacie, took part in the 49th edition of the international trade fair for aviation and aerospace Paris Air Show.

The Paris Air Show held every two years at the Paris Le Bourget airport is next to the Berlin Air Show and the Farnborough Air Show, one of the most important exhibition events for the aviation industry in Europe. This year exhibitors presented, among others, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Lockheed Martin F-16C, Lockheed Martin's C130-J "Hercules", the Airbus A380, Airbus A400M and Bombardier Challenger 805th.

This year Poland presented AT-3's AERO AT from Mielec, a twin-engine plane EM-11C Orka produced by Marganski & Mysłowski from Bielsko Biala (and presented by a pilot training center of the Royal Star of Mielec), UAV Shogun from Eurotech and UAV PR -5 Wiewiór constructed by students from the Rzeszów University of Technology. At the stand of Eastern Poland visitors could see the prototype of the Polish Mars exploration rover MAGMA, devised by students from the Technical University in Bialystok. The rover has recently won two prestigious international competitions in the University Rover Challenge - the Polish rover defeated a robot supported by NASA.

During the fairs the delegation from Eastern Poland had the opportunity to participate in meetings with Canadian exhibitors and companies affiliated to the organization of French GIFAS (French Association of Business Aviation Sector) and the Paris ASTech cluster. On June 23rd Polish businessmen visited the French APS , a company which specializes in the production of coatings for the aerospace and automotive industries.

The stand of Eastern Poland gave opportunity to present 17 companies from the microregion: AERO AT, CAV Aerospace Limited, Eurotech, FIN, Hispano-Suiza Polska, Inkubator Technologiczny Stalowa Wola, King&Fowler Polska, Norbert Polska, Royal Star, SIM, SMF Poland, Thoni Alutec, Ultratech, Waldrex, WSK Tomaszow Lubelski, ZPTSZ Mielec and ZKM Ladish Group.
