15TH REGIONAL INVESTOR ASSISTANCE CENTRE OPENED BY PAIiIZ On March 22, 2005 Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency and the local government of the Mazowieckie voivodship signed the agreement on the creation of the regional Investor Assistance Centre (COI). Mazowieckie voivodship is the 15-th region, which joined the COI network in Poland. The main task of the Centre will be gathering all economic data about the Mazowieckie voivodship and developing investment offers database. It will operate according to “one-stop-shop” rule, which ensures investors complex services, including investment after-care. According to the agreement the Centre may set up branches in other parts of the region. This will enable to monitor the area of the whole voivodship. Source: PAIiIZ
NEW TOYOTA ENGINES FROM JELCZ LASKOWICE Diesel engines for Toyota Avensis produced in the UK and Toyota Corolla manufactured in the UK and Turkey will be produced in the factory of Toyota Motor Industries Poland (TMIP) in Jelcz Laskowice, near Wroc³aw. During the opening ceremony of the new plant Shinichi Sasaki, President of Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing Europe, said that the plant has a strategic meaning for the Japanese company. According to the plans, the factory near Wroc³aw in Jelcz Laskowice will is going to manufacture 180,000 diesel engines annually. Approximately 900 people will be employed. Source: Rzeczpospolita
OVER PLN 500 BILLION TO BE SPENT IN POLAND “We might spend as much as over PLN 500 billion on modernization of Polish economy between 2007-2013. Money will be obtained from EU funds as well as from domestic sources,” announced Prime Minister Marek Belka reporting on the National Development Plan (NPR). Belka stressed that NPR is a chance for the country to reduce the development gap. He ensured that the Polish economy is competitive, maintains high growth rates of the GDP and it is in the transition period from manufacturing to information society. The deputy prime minister Jerzy Hausner said that Polish regions showed interest in establishing cooperation with foreign neighbouring regions. Source: Rzeczpospolita
SIEMENS TO DEVELOP PRODUCTION IN WROC£AW The Polish subsidy of Siemens in Wroc³aw announced that it is going to launch production of software for 3rd generation mobile phones (UMTS). The plant, which is already manufacturing software for mobile networks intends to hire additional 350 IT specialists, which will increase total number of employees to 650. Source: Rzeczpospolita
EXPO 2005 On 24 February the official opening ceremony of the World Expo 2005 in Aichi will be held. Thanks to participation in the event, Poland hopes to encourage foreign investors and tourists from Asia. Polish exposition, which is estimated to be visited by as much as 2 million people, will provide visitors with all information, necessary for starting business activity in Poland. “We arranged a few meetings with managers of the major Japanese companies- representing mainly automotive and electronic sectors,” announced Marcin Kaszuba, Executive Vice-President of PAIiIZ. PROMOTING R&D The Polish Confederation of Private Employers (PKPP) says the so-called Lisbon Strategy, the EU blueprint for economic development, is vital for the success of Poland and the region. Janusz Kaczurba, PKPP management board advisor, sees developing new technologies and innovation as vital to improving Poland's competitiveness. "We have to make sure that Polish economy's competitiveness is based on the solid foundations such as modern products and innovative technology," said Kaczurba. He also thinks that structural and coherence funds should be spent to a larger extent on research and development programs. Source: WBJ
ANOTHER INVESTOR IN £OD¬ SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE A large Japanese company is considering whether to invest EUR 100 million in a new plant of catalysers in £ód¼. Thanks to the project 1,000 people will find jobs. “The project might be the second largest in our Zone, after Gillette,” informed Andrzej O¶niecki, President of the £ód¼ Special Economic Zone. DIAMANT INTERNATIONAL POLAND TO INVEST PLN 50 MLN Diamant International Poland will invest PLN 50 mln in Walce in Opolskie Voivodeship. The investment will create 50 new jobs. The company is going to construct a grain elevator with a total capacity of 25,000 tons, and 40,000 tons over the long run. The investment will be divided into two stages.
