UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2011

In Poland the Report will be launched on July 26th, 2011 at 10.00 at PAIiIZ.

This year’s Report traditionally provides worldwide and regional analyses of FDI flows and offers a review of how non-equity modes of international production influence development.

The World Investment Report 2011 prepared by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is the 21st report concerning foreign direct investment (FDI) in the world.

In accordance with the tradition, the Report will be presented in a number of countries all around the world. The main presentation will take place in Geneva.

In Poland the press conference will be organized on July 26th, 2011 (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. at the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, at 12 Bagatela Str., Warsaw.

PAIiIZ signs cooperation agreement with the Austrian investment agency

PAIiIZ President Sławomir Majman took part in the Polish-Austrian Economic Forum which was held in the framework of the official visit of the President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski in Vienna.

On July 13th, 2011 the Polish President Bronisław Komorowski took part in the Polish-Austrian Economic Forum. The Forum was inaugurated in September 2009 during the official visit of the President of Austria Heinz Fischer, in Warsaw. During the Forum the PAIiIZ President and the President of the Austrian Business Agentur Rene Siegl PhD signed a cooperation agreement in the presence of the Polish President.


Deputy President of the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce Urlike Rabmer- Koller, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jan Borkowski, Poland’s Ambassador to Austria Jerzy Margański, Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Władysław Bartoszewski, President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, Deputy President of the Austrian Foreign Trade Promotion Organisation (WKÖ) Richard Schenz, PAIiIZ President Sławomir Majman and the Head of the Trade and Investment Promotion Section in Vienna Jerzy Jędrzejewski.

The parties declared to undertake actions which will effectively strengthen mutual investments, create conditions for economic growth and develop business contacts between the countries. 2010 showed that Poland is Austria's third most important trading partner in the Central and Eastern Europe. Austrian investments in Poland total EUR 4.3 billion. (PAIiIZ)

PAIiIZ Contest: the best master thesis on "Poland’s Promotion Now"

This is the 5th edition of the contest. This year authors of the best theses will jointly be awarded PLN 50,000.

The contest covers an extensive set of subjects and theses may regard issues connected with Poland's image on the international scene, the economic promotion of Poland, exports, imports and tourism as well as regional products, culture and sport. Authors of the best theses may win three major prices which are jointly worth 15,000 and other financial rewards funded by the Contest’s partners.

The Contest has become one of the most prestigious contests in Poland. Last year the idea attracted 74 participants.  - Every edition attracts new Partners and increases the overall pool of awards. Every year we see that more theses are being sent. And we do see that, the theses tend to be more and more interesting in terms of the ideas and solutions they put forward. - SAYS Krzysztof Przybył, President of the Polskie Godło Promocyjne Foundation and the organiser of the contest.

Professor Krzysztof Opolski from the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw who is the head of the contest’s Expert Commission, emphasises that such contest do help educate staff  for national marketing - In order to be able to effectively promote Poland and its economy, science, regions and products we have to learn various mechanisms used in the place branding processes. That is why we encourage Polish higher education institutions to carry out research on the ways Poland is promoted in the world - adds professor Opolski. Theses may be sent till October 15th, 2011. Fragments of the awarded works will be published in the e-Book "Poland’s Promotion Now”, Vol. 3."

Organisation of the Contest is supported by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ), the Polish Tourism Organisation (POT), the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP), the Agricultural Market Agency (ARR). The Contest enjoys the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the National Bank of Poland (NBP). 

Among the contest’s Partners there are the University of Warsaw (UW), the Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW),  and companies the Polish Oil and Gas Company - PGNiG, Europol GAZ, Deutsche Bank, NASK, TUŻ SKOK. (PAIiIZ)

China EXPO Poland 2011

The Fairs are geared towards Polish and Chinese companies which want to establish business contacts. The Fairs will be held in September in Warsaw.

How to successfully invest in China? Is it difficult to enter in cooperation with Chinese partners? What should an importer know about China and what should you know before starting exporting to China? You can find answers to these questions during the Fairs between September 8th and September 10th, 2011 at the MT Fair and Congress Centre in Warsaw.

The fair will be accompanied by conferences, during which experts will present the conditions of investing in Poland and China, the advantages of bilateral cooperation and current investment opportunities in the countries.

The Fairs will be attended by a number of Chinese companies from various Chinese provinces which are active in the filed of production of furniture, domestic appliance, office supplies, interior design, garments, footwear, textile as well as in the consumer electronics industry. Some 250 companies declared to attend the Fairs.

The event is coorganised by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, the
Polish Chamber of Commerce (KIG), and the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE). The event enjoys the honorary patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of  the Economy Waldemar Pawlak, the Minister of Infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk, the Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism Katarzyna Sobierajska, KIG and PAIiIZ.

INVESTMENTS IN POLAND

New investor in the Kostrzyn-Słubice SEZ

CSM Polska will construct a modern bakery in the Nowa Sól sub zone of the SEZ.

The project involves implementation of modern technology in the field of material dosing, material mixing, baking, storage, transport and production management systems which will help the company introduce new products on the European market. It is worth emphasising that due to the lack of adequate modern technologies, the company decided to develop their own new technology solutions.

The company plans to export the products mainly to Western Europe - mainly to the German market and the food sector i.e. restaurants and fast food chains.

CSM Polska declared to hire at least 82 people and invest PLN 58 million. (Kostrzyn-Słubice SEZ)

Danish investor in Myśliborz

Vest-Fiber ApS, a Danish fibreglass manufacturer, decided to rent a production floor in Myśliborz (Zachodniopomorkie). The company will later build its factory from scratch and hire 100 employees.

The company, founded in 2000 in Tarm - a small town on the Jutland Peninsula, is a supplier of fibreglass products and services to the Wind Turbine industry. One of its main customers is LM Wind Power Blades which invested in Poland. Now the plant in Myśliborz will supply products, among others, to the LM factory in Goleniów.

In the middle of July the investor signed a lease agreement with the owner of the production floor. The installation of equipment and recruitment (15 employees for the beginning) is planned for August. The investment project was supported by the Zachdniopomorskie Investors Assistance Center (COI). FROM THE REGIONS

PAIiIZ cooperates with Piła

On July 18th, 2011 the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the City of Piła.

The major aim of the agreement is to promote Piła and help the city attract more investment projects from abroad. The parties committed themselves to together undertake activities which will help the city actively seek investors and provide them with professional services.

PAIiIZ will provide help in the process of investment offer preparation, in gathering and providing economic information, in creation of data bases concerning the city’s economic environment and in data management. To date the Agency has signed similar agreements with Kielce, Lublin, Rzeszów, Bialystok, Olsztyn. Bydgoszcz, Koszalin, Częstochowa and Zamość. (PAIiIZ)

PAIiIZ training for the regional investor and exporter assistance centres

The training took place on July 14-15th, 2011 in Cracow.

Participants of the training recruited from regional investor and exporter assistance centres (COI/E) and PAIiIZ’s partner cities. The training was devoted to issues connected with the centres' websites which are among the most important tools which help regions attract foreign investors. PAIiIZ representatives talked about investors' expectations towards websites which present investment -related data and assessed websites run by the centres. They also encouraged all the centres to take part in the 2nd edition of the PAIiIZ contest for the best COI/E website.

The training was organised by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency in cooperation with the Małopolska Investor and Exporter Assistance Centre. (PAIiIZ)

ANALYSES AND REPORTS

Rzeczpospolita daily assessed local governments

The 13th edition of the ranking evaluated the governments’ activity in the years 2007-2010.

The evaluation criteria were approved by the jury which was made up of people who work in institutions which cooperate with local governments in Poland.

For the 5th time Poznań’s government was the best among big cities’ governments. The second position was, for the 4th time, occupied by Sopot and the third by Leszno, which went up 17 positions when compared to its last year’s place in the ranking. Again Gdańsk, Gdynia and Szczecin ranked among the top ten best governments of big cities.

In the category of the urban and urban-rural communes the best was Mszczonów (Mazowsze) which last year was on 13th position. Mszczonów was followed by the Dzierżoniów commune (Lower Silesia) and the Dobczyce commune (Małopolska).

The best rural commune is Stepnica (Zachodniopomorskie), second in this category was Zabierzów (Małopolska) and Świdnica (Lower Silesia) was third.

In general the highest places were taken by communes from Silesia and Małopolska. The ranking evaluated, among others, the ways the communes manage their finance and debts, new investments, revenue dynamics, transport and communications as well as the environmental protection.
