ANALYSES AND REPORTS

IT education in Poland - Pro Progression report
Although now, over 26,000 people study IT faculties in the country, the Polish IT market struggles from 30,000 gap of IT professionals. The question is, if education offer can fulfill the growing demand of the market, say Pro Progressio experts that prepared the report regarding IT education in Poland.

The disproportion between the demand for IT professionals and the real access to them is a problematic case not only in Poland but also in the whole Europe. According to the European Commission, by 2020, the EU will need over a million programmers. Thus, creation of good and flexible education system for IT professionals in Poland is so important, Pro Progressio’s experts argue. The authors of the report also explain that, if IT education offer is easily adjustable for local market needs, it can quickly impact on the investment attractiveness of region.

The report shows that now, head hunters look for programmers qualified in algorithmic and mathematics. Among other trends distinguished by Pro Progression, there are: creation of IT faculties together with local companies interested in employing IT graduates. There are 69 universities all over Poland that currently cooperate with business to develop the best education programme for IT students. Moreover, there is a growing number of universities that offer studies in foreign languages. Unfortunately, vast majority of them provide education only in English. There are just two exceptions: Wroclaw and Opole, where IT students are offered in German language.

Where to look for IT talents? The report shows that this year, the biggest number of students started their IT education in Wrocław University of Technology (1364) and University of Warsaw (1076). In terms of Polish provinces, the biggest number of “freshers” have been reported in Mazowieckie (5557) and Wielkopolskie (3816). On the other hand, the lower number of new students has Świętokrzyskie (352) and Lubuskie (268). (ProProgressio)

Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index
Poland is a CEE leader in the latest survey by Deloitte “Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index”. The heads of top global manufacturing companies also report that the importance of the North American and Asian countries is growing.

As in the previous edition of the survey, China is the most competitive country in the world in terms of industrial production. In the opinion of 500 CEOs of manufacturing companies who participated in the study, by 2020, China may lose the position of industry leader and can be placed by the US. The report show that Northern American countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico are now increasing their competitiveness in industrial production.

Meanwhile, Poland is now recognised as the most competitive country of the CEE region. Poland is also 15th in the world and 5th in Europe in this category. Experts believe, however, that industrial competitiveness of Europe will weaken over the next five years. There are two exceptions, however. This is Germany and the United Kingdom, which are already ranked in the top five of the world.
