Poland received more FDI According to PAIiIZ data foreign enterprises have so far invested in Poland almost USD 3 billion FDI in the first half of 2004. This figure is several hundred million USD larger than the amount invested in the corresponding period a year earlier. PAIiIZ is currently running 102 projects, out of which 42 were commenced this year. Andrzej Zdebski, president of PAIiIZ, said the total inflow of FDI in the second half of 2003 amounted to USD 3.9 billion. Andrzej Zdebski also believes the second half of 2004 might see even a higher figure. In 2003 FDI inflow amounted to USD 6.42 billion, out of which USD 3.89 billion was invested in the second half of the year. In 2003 the total value of foreign investments' inflow in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia amounted to respectively 60% and 80% less than a year before. Such figures rank Poland as the only state in the region of Central and Eastern Europe which marked a growth in attracting FDI during the last two years. It is also a factor supporting the constant growth in importance of the Polish economy. Source: Parkiet - Gazeta Giełdy New foreign investors in the Łódź SEZ Three new foreign companies - Spanish Aliberico, Czech Kofola and German Prettl Elektrotechnika have received permits to operate in the area of Łódź Special Economic Zone. Planned investments will reach PLN 280 million, while the total employment 220 jobs. Aliberico Poland will produce both aluminum and steel elements for household's appliances and the automotive industry. It will employ 50 people and invest PLN 180 million. Kofola, well known Czech soft drinks producer, intends to construct a factory worth PLN 100 million in Kutno and thus create 100 new jobs. German Prettl, Bosch subsidiary, which produces plastics, electronic equipment and batteries, will invest PLN 9 million and thus it will create 70 new jobs. Source: Rzeczpospolita Poland has improving climate for enterprises According to World Bank report, Poland appeared among the top ten countries improving their operating climate for enterprises . Each year the World Bank publishes data concerning incentives and barriers hindering entrepreneurship. The latest ranking includes the condition of business climate in 145 countries throughout the world. Each year the World Bank investigates registration procedures, tax regulations, set up costs, or even ways in which local authorities treat newly established small enterprises. New EU members appeared among the first ten countries which faced the most considerable climate improvement. These are Poland, Lithuania and Slovakia. The latter two managed to enter the top twenty countries, in which own setting up a business requires least effort, time and money. Source: Gazeta Wyborcza Chinese EIW Industrial Development invests €2.2 million in Słupsk Special Economic Zone New Chinese Production Center is to be built in Koszalin, in the area of Słupsk Special Economic Zone. The factory will produce electronic devices as well as bicycles. The value of the investment is about €2.2 million (PLN 10 million). Chinese Company EIW Industrial Development has already signed an agreement to purchase 5 ha of land and is considering the purchase of another 5 ha. 4-5 Chinese companies want to run their businesses in the new Centre.
