Poland to support the development of smart-cities in Iran

The vast range of new business perspectives waiting in Iran - the market with 80 million consumers - were discussed on 21 February during the Polish - Iranian business seminar. During the event Krzysztof Senger, executive vice-president of the Agency who led the seminar, was invited to open a second after the one in Teheran, office in Iran.

The Polish - Iranian seminar was the second business meeting between the two countries arranged in the recent months under the Go Iran governmental programme. As previously, it gathered a significant number of participants from Poland and Iran. The seminar was organized on the occasion of the visit of the official delegation from the East Azerbaijan province. Located in the north-west part of Iran, The East Azerbaijan is the industrial centre of Iran. The province has over 5,000 manufacturing units (6% percent of national total). It is a hub of paper manufacturing, steel, copper and glass industries and a place with well-developed oil refineries, petrochemical processing facilities, chemical production, pharmaceutical processing, machine and auto-parts and food industries. East Azerbaijan province is also one of the richest regions of Iran in natural minerals.

The Iranian officials and entrepreneurs who came to Poland have been looking for investment partners in the country. They have been also interested in Polish experience in developing the economy and providing service to investors. “Iran offers plenty of business opportunities for Polish companies. One of them is the access to a huge market of 80 million Iranian consumers and to 400 million in the whole region”, said the Ambassador of Iran in Poland, HE, Ramin Mehmanparast. „Poland can expect cheap energy, low costs of internal transportation and laborious people in Iran”, he added. „Talented workforce is one of the biggest assets we are offering to our foreign partners”, the governor of the East Azerbaijan Jabbarzadeh explained. He also reminded that in Iran, a 20-year development programme has been introduced. It specifies the specialisation of each province. He also added that the capital city of East Azerbaijan, Tabriz, plans to become a “smart- city”. To achieve this goal, Tabriz needs investment in smart transport, municipal services, development of airports and roads, real estate as well as hotels and hospitality sectors.

Polish companies might take part in modernisation of Tabriz, benefiting from investment. “As a member of Polish Development Found, the Agency has introduces a complex support for Polish companies interested in doing business in Iran”, said Krzysztof Senger, executive vice-president of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency. As he informed, currently, the trade office of the Agency is being opened in Teheran. Moreover, transactions between Polish and Iran are provided by by two Polish banks: PKO PB and BGK, while Export Credit Insurance Corporation (KUKE) offers export credits. Mr Senger was invited by the mayor of the city of Tabriz Mr Sadegh Najafi Khazerlou to open a trade office also in Tabriz. (Polish Investment and Trade Agency)
